theSVG

An MCP server and skill for a set of thousands of brand SVG icons: the agent searches and inserts icons with no key

MCP serverOfficial

Low risk

We rate an entry low when it mostly gives the agent instructions and reference material.

Why this level

  • The MCP server serves icon search and content; the agent does the insertion
All reasons and checks

glincker/thesvg

Install

In your terminal, with SkillFoxx CLI

npx skillfoxx add mcp/thesvg

Detects the agents on your machine, checks the risk and pins the version.

Other ways to install

Run in a terminal

claude mcp add --transport stdio thesvg -- npx -y @thesvg/mcp-server

Or add to the file .mcp.json, in the project

{
  "mcpServers": {
    "thesvg": {
      "command": "npx",
      "args": [
        "-y",
        "@thesvg/mcp-server"
      ]
    }
  }
}

If the file already exists, add the server inside the mcpServers key.

Install in Cursor

The button opens the agent and offers to add the server. If nothing happens, copy the config below.

Add to the file ~/.cursor/mcp.json, for all projects

{
  "mcpServers": {
    "thesvg": {
      "command": "npx",
      "args": [
        "-y",
        "@thesvg/mcp-server"
      ]
    }
  }
}

If the file already exists, add the server inside the mcpServers key. For a single project, put the same block into .cursor/mcp.json.

Install in VS Code

The button opens the agent and offers to add the server. If nothing happens, copy the config below.

Run in a terminal

code --add-mcp '{"name":"thesvg","type":"stdio","command":"npx","args":["-y","@thesvg/mcp-server"]}'

Or add to the file .vscode/mcp.json, in the project

{
  "servers": {
    "thesvg": {
      "type": "stdio",
      "command": "npx",
      "args": [
        "-y",
        "@thesvg/mcp-server"
      ]
    }
  }
}

If the file already exists, add the server inside the servers key.

Run in a terminal

codex mcp add thesvg -- npx -y @thesvg/mcp-server

Or add to the file ~/.codex/config.toml, for all projects

[mcp_servers.thesvg]
command = "npx"
args = ["-y", "@thesvg/mcp-server"]

If the file already exists, append the block to the end.

Add to the file ~/.gemini/settings.json, for all projects

{
  "mcpServers": {
    "thesvg": {
      "command": "npx",
      "args": [
        "-y",
        "@thesvg/mcp-server"
      ]
    }
  }
}

If the file already exists, add the server inside the mcpServers key.

Add to the file ~/.config/devin/mcp_config.json, for all projects

{
  "mcpServers": {
    "thesvg": {
      "command": "npx",
      "args": [
        "-y",
        "@thesvg/mcp-server"
      ]
    }
  }
}

If the file already exists, add the server inside the mcpServers key. Legacy Cascade keeps the MCP config in ~/.codeium/windsurf/mcp_config.json.

Formerly Windsurf.

Add to the file cline_mcp_settings.json, for all projects

{
  "mcpServers": {
    "thesvg": {
      "command": "npx",
      "args": [
        "-y",
        "@thesvg/mcp-server"
      ]
    }
  }
}

If the file already exists, add the server inside the mcpServers key. Open the settings file in Cline: MCP Servers tab, Configure MCP Servers.

Add to the file .roo/mcp.json, in the project

{
  "mcpServers": {
    "thesvg": {
      "command": "npx",
      "args": [
        "-y",
        "@thesvg/mcp-server"
      ]
    }
  }
}

If the file already exists, add the server inside the mcpServers key.

A fork of Roo Code, same .roo folders.

Add to the file opencode.json, in the project

{
  "mcp": {
    "thesvg": {
      "type": "local",
      "command": [
        "npx",
        "-y",
        "@thesvg/mcp-server"
      ]
    }
  }
}

If the file already exists, add the server inside the mcp key.

Add to the file ~/.config/zed/settings.json, for all projects

{
  "context_servers": {
    "thesvg": {
      "command": "npx",
      "args": [
        "-y",
        "@thesvg/mcp-server"
      ]
    }
  }
}

If the file already exists, add the server inside the context_servers key.

Add to the file .codeassistant/mcp.json, in the project

{
  "mcpServers": {
    "thesvg": {
      "command": "npx",
      "args": [
        "-y",
        "@thesvg/mcp-server"
      ]
    }
  }
}

If the file already exists, add the server inside the mcpServers key.

Text for your agent

Add the MCP server with the npx @thesvg/mcp-server command in your MCP client config; no key is needed. For the project, add the library with npm i thesvg.

No key needed. Gives the agent icon search and access.

What it does

theSVG is an open-source set of over six thousand brand SVG icons, including logos, AWS, Azure and GCP, with typing and tree-shaking. Beyond npm packages for React, Vue, Svelte and React Native, it provides the @thesvg/mcp-server and an agent skill. The MCP server gives AI clients in Claude Desktop, Cursor and Claude Code direct access to the icons with no key: the agent searches for an icon and inserts it. There is a CLI, extensions for VS Code, Raycast, Figma and others, and CDN access.

Who it is for. For frontend developers and designers who want the agent to find and insert brand SVG icons.

Good fit when

  • You want the agent to find and insert a brand or cloud icon
  • You need typed, tree-shakeable SVG icons in the project
  • You want access to a large icon set over MCP with no key

Not a fit when

  • You need illustrations or custom icons rather than brand logos
  • You cannot use brand logos in your context under their rules

Example request

Find the GitHub icon and insert it into my site header

Limitations

This is a set of brand logos and icons: using them must follow the brands' rules. The MCP server gives icon search and access, while the agent does the insertion and markup. The packages target JavaScript and TypeScript.

How to disable. Remove the thesvg entry from the MCP client config and remove the thesvg package from the project if it was added.

MCP

Transport
stdio
Authentication
not required

Security check

  • The MCP server serves icon search and content; the agent does the insertion

README in short

The README presents theSVG as an open-source set of thousands of brand SVG icons, including logos and AWS, Azure and GCP icons, with typing and tree-shaking. Beyond the npm package there are separate packages for React, Vue, Svelte and React Native, a CLI, extensions for VS Code, Raycast, Figma, Alfred and Neovim, and access via CDN and Iconify. For agents there is the @thesvg/mcp-server that gives icon access with no key, plus a skill. MIT licensed.

FAQ
