How we reviewExtended accessThe tool runs code or makes network calls and only reads external data.

What it does
GoSQLX gives an agent seven SQL tools: `validate_sql`, `format_sql`, `parse_sql`, `extract_metadata`, `security_scan`, `lint_sql` and `analyze_sql`. All of them only read a query and return a result. Behind them is a pure Go parser covering PostgreSQL, MySQL, MariaDB, SQL Server, Oracle, SQLite, Snowflake and ClickHouse. The server runs remotely at `https://mcp.gosqlx.dev/mcp`, with nothing to install and no key to obtain. Claude Code also gets a separate plugin: five skills, the commands `/gosqlx:analyze`, `/gosqlx:format`, `/gosqlx:lint` and `/gosqlx:security`, the `sql-reviewer` agent and a hook that validates a `.sql` file after the agent edits it. The same engine ships as a Go library, the `gosqlx` CLI, a VS Code extension and a GitHub Action.
Who it is for. Developers who write migrations and queries with an agent and want syntax errors and SQL injection caught before anything runs.
Good fit when
- An agent wrote a PostgreSQL migration and its syntax must be checked without a database.
- A MySQL query is moving to Snowflake and needs validation under another dialect.
- Code concatenates SQL strings and you want to find the injection point.
- A pull request carries dozens of `.sql` files that should share one style.
Not a fit when
- Queries cannot be sent to an external public server.
- The query must run and return data: the tool parses text and never connects to a database.
- The work uses a dialect without its own grammar in the parser, such as BigQuery or Redshift, which get generic rules only.
Example request
Validate the migration `db/migrations/0042.sql` against PostgreSQL syntax, look for injection risks and show a formatted version.MCP

Limitations
The public server rate-limits to 10 requests per second in a burst and 120 weighted requests per minute per address, and `analyze_sql` costs more than the rest. SQL text goes to that server, so self-host the engine for private schemas. Through MCP only linter rules L001–L010 are available; L011–L030 run via the Go library. MCP validation does not accept every dialect, and the list depends on the server version. The plugin hook needs the `gosqlx` CLI installed and is turned off with `GOSQLX_HOOK_DISABLE=1`.
How to disable. Remove the connection with `claude mcp remove gosqlx` or disable the `gosqlx@gosqlx` plugin in Claude Code.
FAQ
How do I connect GoSQLX to Claude Code?
Run `claude mcp add --transport http gosqlx https://mcp.gosqlx.dev/mcp`. For the plugin with skills and commands use `/plugin marketplace add ajitpratap0/GoSQLX`, then `/plugin install gosqlx@gosqlx`.
Is an API key required?
No. The public server works without registration or a key but with a request rate limit.
Can GoSQLX be connected to Cursor?
Yes, `https://mcp.gosqlx.dev/mcp` works for any MCP client with streamable HTTP support, Cursor included.
What does the plugin hook do?
After a `.sql` file is written or edited it runs `gosqlx validate` and returns the error to the agent so it can fix the file. The hook works only when the CLI is on `PATH`.
Which SQL dialects are supported?
Eight with their own grammar: PostgreSQL, MySQL, MariaDB, SQL Server, Oracle, SQLite, Snowflake and ClickHouse. The `--dialect` flag also accepts `generic`, `bigquery` and `redshift`.

README in short
The core is a SQL parser library for Go accompanied by a CLI, a VS Code extension, a GitHub Action and a WASM playground. The agent side is a separate remote MCP server and a Claude Code plugin. Tests run with the race detector.
