What it does
hyper-mcp is an MCP server in Rust with WebAssembly plugins (Extism). Plugins load from OCI registries, local `file://` files, `http(s)://` addresses and `s3://`. Installation: `brew install hyper-mcp`, `cargo install hyper-mcp`, connection to Claude Code with `claude mcp add hyper-mcp -- hyper-mcp --config-file /path/to/config.json`, and there is also the plugin `/plugin marketplace add hyper-mcp-rs/hyper-mcp`. There are no stable releases, only `nightly`. Apache-2.0 license.
Who it is for. For developers who write their own MCP tools as WebAssembly plugins and want a fast server to run them.
Good fit when
- You need an MCP server with WebAssembly plugins
- You need plugin loading from OCI or s3
- You need a fast server in Rust
Not a fit when
- You need stable versions: there is only nightly
- You need signature checking for plugins by http links
Example request
Connect hyper-mcp with one plugin from a trusted OCI registry and call its tool from the agentMCP
- Transport
- stdio
- Authentication
- not required
Limitations
The cosign signature of OCI plugins can be turned off in a setting, and plugins loaded by http links are not checked by signature, so access is extended. Take plugins only from trusted sources. There are no stable releases and the nightly version changes without a number.
How to disable. Remove the server entry from the client and the binary with brew uninstall hyper-mcp or cargo uninstall hyper-mcp.
