What it does
MCP Picnic links an AI assistant to the Picnic grocery delivery service in the Netherlands, Germany and France. Through its tools an agent searches products, browses weekly promotions, adds and removes cart items, picks a delivery slot and tracks an order and the driver's position. Picnic recipes are covered: browsing categories, ingredient lists and saving. The server ships ready-made prompts: weekly meal planning with a budget, quick dinners, pantry restocking and dietary substitutions. Login uses a Picnic username and password, and with two-factor checks enabled the code is entered through `picnic_generate_2fa_code` and `picnic_verify_2fa_code`.
Who it is for. Residents of the Netherlands, Germany and France with a Picnic account who plan grocery shopping in conversation with an assistant.
Good fit when
- A week of dinners for four with a 100 euro budget and a ready cart is needed.
- A recipe's ingredient list moves into the cart with allergies in mind.
- You want to know when the delivery arrives and where the driver is.
- Household stock is replenished by reordering usual items.
Not a fit when
- You have no Picnic account or live outside the Netherlands, Germany and France.
- The account password must not be stored in client configuration.
- The agent must not see payment methods and transaction history.
Example request
Plan five dinners for two within 75 euros, add the groceries to the cart and show free delivery slots.MCP

Environment variables
PICNIC_USERNAMErequired- Picnic account email
PICNIC_PASSWORDrequired, secret- Picnic account password
PICNIC_COUNTRY_CODE- Country code: NL (default), DE or FR
PICNIC_SESSION_FILE- Saved session file, so two-factor verification is not repeated
Limitations
The server is unofficial: the company Picnic is not involved and the protocol may change. Username and password live in environment variables of the client configuration, and `PICNIC_COUNTRY_CODE` picks the country: NL, DE or FR. With two-factor checks enabled, keep the session through `PICNIC_SESSION_FILE` on a Docker volume or codes must be re-entered. The toolset includes cancelling a delivery and viewing the payment profile and wallet transactions. The last commit is dated August 2026.
How to disable. Delete the `picnic` block from `claude_desktop_config.json` or the client configuration, then run `npm uninstall -g mcp-picnic`. Change the Picnic password if it was stored in configuration.
FAQ
Which countries does MCP Picnic support?
The Netherlands, Germany and France. The `PICNIC_COUNTRY_CODE` variable sets NL, DE or FR; the default is NL.
How do I complete two-factor verification?
Ask the assistant to call `picnic_generate_2fa_code`, then pass the received code to `picnic_verify_2fa_code`. The session is kept until it expires.
Is this an official Picnic server?
No. It is unofficial and independent of Picnic the company.
Which tools exist for ordering?
Product search, cart, delivery slots, delivery tracking and recipes. The payment profile and wallet transactions are separate tools.
How do I run the server in Docker?
The README describes a Docker run with a volume for `PICNIC_SESSION_FILE` so the session survives container restarts.
