What it does

OpenDesign is a desktop app for macOS and Windows plus a library of skills, DESIGN.md design systems and plugins. It generates web and mobile prototypes, live dashboards, decks, images and motion graphics, exporting to HTML, PDF, PPTX and MP4. The app drives coding-agent CLIs found on your PATH (Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, OpenCode and others) or any OpenAI-compatible endpoint with your own key. Inside an agent it connects as an MCP server via od mcp install.

Who it is for. Designers, product managers and developers who want mockups and decks built in real CSS from their own agent.

Good fit when

  • You need a clickable landing page or app prototype in a specific design system
  • You want a deck or document exported to PPTX or PDF
  • You need to extract a brand's visual language into DESIGN.md

Not a fit when

  • You need collaborative vector editing like Figma
  • You are on Linux and do not want to build from source

Limitations

No prebuilt Linux artifacts are published; Linux users run from source (Node 24, pnpm 10.33). On macOS and WSL2 the od command can be shadowed by the system /usr/bin/od, so desktop users should copy the snippet from Settings > MCP server. Automatic MCP setup for Claude Desktop works on macOS and Windows only.

How to disable. Run od mcp install <agent> --uninstall to remove the integration from an agent.

It supports 26 local agent CLIs, with one-command MCP setup for 16 of them. Docker, Sealos deployment and running from source are also available. Apache 2.0 licensed, with a Russian README translation.

Does it work without a CLI agent installed?

Yes, via the BYOK proxy: provide baseUrl, apiKey and model for OpenAI, Anthropic, Azure, Gemini, Ollama or any compatible endpoint.
