What it does
OpenDia lets models drive the browser: 18 MCP tools and an extension for Chrome and Firefox installed from an archive on the Releases page. Server launch: `npx opendia`, with ports set by the `--port=6000` flag or `--ws-port` and `--http-port`. For ChatGPT there is a `npx opendia --tunnel` mode, and the ngrok address is then connected as a connector. There is also a Grok Build plugin. The project positions itself as an open alternative to Dia and Perplexity Comet. Version 1.1.4, MIT license.
Who it is for. For people who want an agent to work in their browser in already open sessions: reading pages, clicking and filling forms.
Good fit when
- You want an agent to act in your browser session
- You need an MCP to drive the browser through an extension
- You need a tunnel mode to connect ChatGPT
Not a fit when
- You cannot let an agent act in accounts where you are already signed in
- You need a headless browser on a server: this uses your regular browser
Example request
Open the order page in my browser, find the tracking number and copy it into the spreadsheetMCP
- Transport
- stdio
- Authentication
- not required
Limitations
The agent acts in your browser and in all sessions open there, so it can read pages and submit forms in your name: access is wide. Close tabs with banking, mail and work systems until you are sure about the task. The extension is installed by hand from the Releases archive. The tunnel mode makes the server address reachable from the network.
How to disable. Remove the extension from Chrome or Firefox, stop the server and take the connector out of the client.
