What it does
OpenTabs lets an agent call the internal APIs of web apps through the already open and signed-in session of your browser with no API keys and no OAuth. It consists of a Chrome extension and a CLI: `npm install -g @opentabs-dev/cli`. Anonymous telemetry is on by default and can be turned off. The DISCLAIMER.md file states that the project is not affiliated with any of the services. MIT license, no GitHub releases.
Who it is for. For developers and automators who need to drive a web app from an agent where there is no open API.
Good fit when
- The service has no open API but actions are needed
- You need to use the sign-in already done in the browser
- You need automation of internal pages from an agent
Not a fit when
- You cannot let an agent act in your name
- The service terms forbid automation
Example request
Open the task tracker page in my browser and create a task from a template, showing the text firstMCP
- Transport
- stdio
- Authentication
- not required
Limitations
The agent acts through your signed-in session, that is in your name, and calls internal APIs without key limits, so access is wide. The terms of many services forbid such automation and responsibility is yours. Anonymous telemetry is on by default. Close tabs with banking and mail.
How to disable. Remove the extension from Chrome, the package with npm uninstall -g @opentabs-dev/cli and the server entry from the client.
