Extended access
Why this level
- The MCP client reads and edits documents; draft protection depends on page settings.

- Works in
Manual install
docker run -d -p 8080:8080 \
-v oxynote_data:/oxynote/data \
ghcr.io/oxynote/oxynoteThe first Quick Start block deploys the application with a persistent volume. Configure MCP separately.
Access and checks
How we reviewExtended accessThe tool runs code or makes network calls and only reads external data.
- The MCP client reads and edits documents; draft protection depends on page settings.
This is third-party code. Review the repository files before installing.
What it does
Oxynote combines technical documents with live Prometheus and SQL charts. An MCP client reads structured page blocks and edits selected parts. On protected pages, changes remain in a diffable draft until a person approves and merges it. The workspace runs in a self-hosted Docker container. Users separately approve external agent connections. The built-in assistant is optional: MCP can run without it, and pages and charts work without model setup.
Who it is for. For engineering teams discussing service documentation and metrics alongside an agent.
Good fit when
- Add a live chart to service documentation.
- Let an agent revise selected page blocks.
- Review a runbook change as a draft.
- Self-host a technical workspace.
Not a fit when
- You need the planned logging, alerting and admin features now.
- A container and workspace storage cannot be provided.
- MCP-client consent would be treated as approval for every edit.
Example request
Connect to test Oxynote and propose a protected-page draft without merging it.MCP

Limitations
Change the demonstration administrator password before exposing the service to other people. MCP requires HTTPS or a loopback address and stays off on plain LAN HTTP. Write tools do not request confirmation for each edit; use protected pages and client behavior when review is mandatory. Charts query your connections, so use limited accounts and do not expose confidential context to a model without authorization.
How to disable. Revoke the client in Oxynote settings and remove its MCP entry. Stop the container to disable the whole service while preserving its data volume.
FAQ
Which MCP transport is used?
Streamable HTTP at `/core/api/mcp`.
How is access authorized?
OAuth 2.1 with browser consent for each client.
Is the built-in assistant required?
No. It and external MCP are configured independently.
Does approval immediately merge a draft?
No. Approval and merge are separate actions.
Can it replace the entire monitoring stack?
Charts exist now; logs, traces and alerting are still in development.

README in short
A page change can update both an explanation and chart query. Block diffs help review their consistency before publication.
