What it does
Photoshop MCP Server connects an MCP client to Adobe Photoshop installed on your computer through the photoshop-python-api library. An agent creates, opens and saves documents, adds text and solid-color layers, and reads details of the session, the active document and the selection. For other tasks there is the photoshop_execute_jsx tool. It runs any Photoshop JavaScript and returns the result with a success flag or the error text. That reaches channels, paths, history states and filters. The ExtendScript engine has no JSON object, so the server injects its own polyfill. The server exposes three resources: photoshop://info, photoshop://document/info and photoshop://document/layers.

Good fit when

- You are on macOS or Linux: the server uses Windows COM interfaces and will not run there
- Photoshop is not installed locally: the server drives only an installed copy
- An agent must not be allowed to run arbitrary code in your Photoshop
- You need image generation by a model: the server only edits Photoshop documents

Limitations
The server works on Windows only: it talks to Photoshop through COM interfaces. It needs an installed Adobe Photoshop and Python 3.10 or newer. The author tested Photoshop versions from CC2017 to 2024. The ExtendScript engine is based on ECMAScript 3, so arrow functions, let and const are unavailable in scripts. If Photoshop does not report document dimensions, width and height arrive as zeros marked dimensions_unavailable.
How to disable. Remove the photoshop entry from mcpServers in the client configuration and restart the client. Uninstall the package with pip uninstall photoshop-mcp-server.

How do I install Photoshop MCP Server in Claude Desktop?
Install the package with pip install photoshop-mcp-server or use uvx. Add a photoshop entry to mcpServers with the command uvx, arguments --python 3.10 and photoshop-mcp-server, and the PS_VERSION variable.
Why does a JSX script with an arrow function fail?
The ExtendScript engine in Photoshop understands only ECMAScript 3 syntax. Write functions with function and declare variables with var.
What does photoshop_execute_jsx do?
It runs any Photoshop JavaScript you pass. On success it returns the result, and on an error inside Photoshop or an unreachable Photoshop it returns a failure flag with the error text.
Which Photoshop versions are supported?
You set the version in the PS_VERSION variable, for example 2024 or 2023. The author tested versions from CC2017 to 2024.
Which resources does the server expose?
Three: photoshop://info with application details, photoshop://document/info for the active document and photoshop://document/layers for its layers.
