yougile-mcp-server

A YouGile MCP server with no hard-delete tools at all: the strongest mutation is reversible archiving

MCP server

Medium risk

We rate an entry medium when the tool runs code, makes network calls or reads project files. Check what exactly it does before installing.

Why this level

  • Can create, edit, move and archive tasks under the key owner's identity
  • The key-retrieval wizard temporarily handles the YouGile account login and password

Install

In your terminal, with SkillFoxx CLI

npx skillfoxx add mcp/ra53n-yougile-mcp

Detects the agents on your machine, checks the risk and pins the version.

Other ways to install

Run in a terminal

claude mcp add --transport stdio --env 'YOUGILE_API_KEY=<your YOUGILE_API_KEY>' yougile -- npx -y yougile-mcp-server

Or add to the file .mcp.json, in the project

{
  "mcpServers": {
    "yougile": {
      "command": "npx",
      "args": [
        "-y",
        "yougile-mcp-server"
      ],
      "env": {
        "YOUGILE_API_KEY": "<your YOUGILE_API_KEY>"
      }
    }
  }
}

If the file already exists, add the server inside the mcpServers key.

Keys and settings

YOUGILE_API_KEYsecret, required
YOUGILE_BASE_URLoptional

Replace the values in angle brackets with your own. Keys never go into install links and are not stored by us.

Install in Cursor

The button opens the agent and offers to add the server. If nothing happens, copy the config below.

Add to the file ~/.cursor/mcp.json, for all projects

{

You will need: Node.js

Checked against the repository on Sep 25, 2026, commit 364b4fc.

Text for your agent

Get a key with npm run get-key (enter your YouGile login and password), then add the server to claude_desktop_config.json with the command npx -y yougile-mcp-server and the YOUGILE_API_KEY variable.

Other ways from the author
npm run get-key

The README wizard: asks for a YouGile login and password, lists companies, creates a key and prints a ready config.

This is third-party code. Review the repository files before installing.

What it does

The server provides read access and safe writes for projects, boards, columns, tasks (create, update, move, complete, archive), comments, users and stickers, plus three summary tools: board_summary, my_tasks, overdue_tasks. It deliberately implements no hard-delete tool at all; the strongest mutation in the set, archiving, is always reversible. It runs over stdio for local use and over Streamable HTTP for deployment on your own VPS with Caddy and systemd, with remote clients connecting through the mcp-remote bridge with a Bearer token and DNS-rebinding protection.

Who it is for. For anyone who wants to let an agent write to YouGile while ruling out irreversible deletion entirely.

Good fit when

  • It matters that the tool set physically contains no hard delete
  • You want a ready VPS deployment scenario with Caddy and automatic TLS
  • You want board, overdue and my-tasks summaries without assembling them by hand

Not a fit when

  • You need to permanently delete tasks or objects rather than archive them
  • You're not ready to obtain a key via the interactive npm run get-key, which asks for your YouGile login and password

Example request

Show my overdue tasks on the "Sprint 12" board and suggest what to push to next week

Limitations

The npm run get-key wizard asks for the YouGile login and password directly (per the README, it doesn't store them, only sends them to YouGile). board_summary fans out one request per column, which can approach the rate limit on large boards. The HTTP server mode needs your own VPS, Caddy and MCP_AUTH_TOKEN setup; it's not a one-line install.

How to disable. For local mode, remove the yougile entry from your client config. For the server mode, stop the systemd service and remove the Caddy block.

Security check

  • Can create, edit, move and archive tasks under the key owner's identity
  • The key-retrieval wizard temporarily handles the YouGile account login and password

README in short

The README emphasizes the set's safety (read plus safe writes, no hard delete at all), gives a full tool table by group, key-retrieval instructions via npm run get-key, configs for Claude Desktop and Cursor, a separate README-deploy.md for a VPS with Caddy, and remote client connection via mcp-remote.

FAQ

Is there a tool to permanently delete a task?

No, the strongest operation is archiving, and it's always reversible.

Can I connect the server remotely from Claude Desktop?

Yes, via the mcp-remote bridge with a Bearer token to your HTTP deployment on a VPS.
