What it does
SolidInvoice is an invoicing application, and the MCP server is built into it, so there is nothing separate to install. An agent connects to the `/_mcp` path of your instance or to the cloud `https://solidinvoice.app/_mcp`. Sign-in uses OAuth 2.1: at consent you pick a company and permissions, and no API keys are pasted anywhere. The `mcp:read` scope covers lists of invoices, quotes, clients, taxes and payments, plus summaries such as revenue for a period, a client's outstanding balance and overdue invoices. You turn on `mcp:write` if you want it, and then the agent creates invoices and quotes, clones them, converts a quote into an invoice, records an offline payment and sends a reminder. The connection is bound to one company: another company's data stays invisible to the agent even if you belong to both. Access is revoked on the connected apps page of the profile.
Who it is for. Freelancers and small businesses on SolidInvoice who would rather ask an agent about client debts than scroll through invoice lists.
Good fit when
- By month end you need weekly revenue and the list of overdue invoices in one request.
- A regular client is billed monthly from the same quote, and cloning it is faster.
- A client paid in cash, and the payment has to be recorded against the right invoice.
- An approved quote is turned into an invoice without retyping the lines.
Not a fit when
- Your accounting runs on another system: the server works with SolidInvoice only.
- The agent client cannot do OAuth with dynamic registration: there is no static API key here.
- An online payment has to go through a payment gateway: the tool records offline payments only.

Limitations
The server accepts only clients with OAuth 2.1 and dynamic registration, and there is no static API key. A self-hosted instance needs HTTPS or the browser sign-in fails, and for several nodes the session store is switched from files to a cache. Signing keys are created once with `bin/console mcp:keys:generate` before the first run. The agent acts as the user within the chosen company, and write access is a separate checkbox. The access token lives 24 hours and the refresh token 90 days.
How to disable. Revoke the agent on the `Profile → Connected apps` page in SolidInvoice and access closes at once. The server is removed from the client with `claude mcp remove solidinvoice`.
FAQ
How do I connect SolidInvoice to Claude Code?
Run `claude mcp add --transport http solidinvoice https://solidinvoice.app/_mcp`, and swap the URL for a self-hosted instance. The first call opens the browser on a consent screen where you pick the company and permissions.
Is an API key required?
No. Access is granted through OAuth 2.1 on the consent screen, and the server deliberately has no static key.
Can the agent delete data?
Only with the `mcp:write` scope: then `delete_resource` for clients, contacts and taxes and invoice status changes are available. If only reading is needed, leave the write checkbox off.
Does it work with the cloud and with a self-hosted install?
Both. The address always ends in `/_mcp`, and a self-hosted server needs HTTPS and the signing keys from `mcp:keys:generate`.
How do I revoke an agent's access?
Open `Profile → Connected apps` in SolidInvoice and revoke the agent. Tokens stop working at once, the next request returns `401 invalid_token`, and a new consent is needed.
