The Website Specification MCP
A reference MCP gives an agent sourced website requirements and helps prepare a checklist before a site release

Extended access
Why this level
- The remote server receives search queries and planning parameters, including a submitted site address
Install
- Works in
Manual install
Connect the HTTP MCP at `https://mcp.specification.website/mcp`. Choose one category and request its checklist. For each finding, show the requirement, status and primary source. Obtain site evidence through a separate tool. A recommendation alone does not prove a page has a problem.

What it does
The Website Specification connects an agent to a reference of website requirements. Search finds a relevant topic, and `get_topic` returns its text with primary-source links. The agent can check which standard supports a recommendation. The material covers accessibility, SEO, security and other areas of web development. Each item has a status: required, recommended, optional or avoid. These levels help distinguish requirements from useful improvements when planning work. `get_checklist` builds a checklist by category or status. The `audit_url` prompt prepares an audit plan for an address. The reference itself does not open a site or measure its performance; the agent needs browser evidence, code analysis or another tool for those checks.
Who it is for. Website auditors checking accessibility, SEO and security requirements against their source standards.
Good fit when
- A site release needs a checklist for a chosen area
- A recommendation needs support from HTML, WCAG or another primary source
- A task mixes requirements with optional improvements
- You need requirements for material a website makes available to AI agents
Not a fit when
- You need a measured site report without other tools
- You need instructions for a particular CMS plugin or framework
- You need a legal assessment of site compliance
Example request
Use Website Specification to plan an accessibility check for this page. Include requirement status and primary sources, and mark items without evidence as unchecked.MCP

Limitations
The client needs remote HTTP MCP support and network access to the public server; no key or account is required. Self-hosting needs Node.js and Cloudflare infrastructure, a separate installation route. The required status reflects the reference author’s classification; check disputed requirements against primary sources and site context. Content uses CC BY 4.0, so retain attribution and identify changes when reusing it; code uses MIT.
How to disable. Remove `specification-website` from MCP settings and restart the client if it caches tools. Remove any separately copied skill too. This does not undo website changes made using the recommendations.
FAQ
How do I connect the reference?
Add the remote HTTP MCP using the configuration example below. No key is needed.
Does `audit_url` automatically inspect a site?
No. It is a prompt that creates a plan. The agent must obtain measurements and observations before marking an item verified.
Can I request just one topic?
Yes. Use `search`, then `get_topic` for the chosen item. The full reference need not enter every conversation.
Where can I read it without MCP?
At `https://specification.website`. Pages have Markdown variants, and `https://specification.website/llms.txt` provides an index.
Can every recommendation become a mandatory requirement?
No. Preserve each item’s status. A project may adopt a recommendation as policy, but should not attribute that decision to the underlying standard.

README in short
The site and MCP use shared Markdown content. Pages cite web standards and provider documentation. The site developer chooses how to implement the requirements.
