Yandex Wordstat MCP Server
An MCP server for Yandex Wordstat via the Yandex Cloud Search API: frequency, dynamics, regions and an operator-aware phrase builder
Low risk
We rate an entry low when it mostly gives the agent instructions and reference material.
Why this level
- Only reads public search query statistics, changes nothing in the user's accounts
- Every Search API call is billed by Yandex Cloud, so balance spend is worth watching

npx skillfoxx add mcp/yandex-wordstat-mcp-serverDetects the agents on your machine, checks the risk and pins the version.

Install the server with uvx --from git+https://github.com/baltic-tea/yandex-wordstat-mcp.git wordstat-mcp, add it to your MCP client with WORDSTAT_FOLDER_ID and WORDSTAT_API_KEY (or WORDSTAT_IAM_TOKEN), then call getTop to verify.
Other ways from the author
uvx --from git+https://github.com/baltic-tea/yandex-wordstat-mcp.git wordstat-mcpThe main README method: runs the server straight from Git via uvx, no cloning needed.
This is third-party code. Review the repository files before installing.
What it does
A FastMCP server wraps the Wordstat API v2 methods (getTop, getDynamics, getRegionsDistribution, getRegionsTree) and adds tools on top: build_wordstat_phrase turns a plain Russian request into a correct phrase with operators (quotes, plus, stop words), find_regions looks up a region ID by name from a locally cached region tree, and task-oriented aliases (find_keyword_queries, get_query_demand_trends) cover the same calls under clearer names. It retries on network errors and 429/5xx, and ships an MCP resource plus a prompt with a guide to Wordstat operators for the agent.
Who it is for. For marketers and SEO specialists who build keyword lists and check demand through an agent instead of the Wordstat website.
Good fit when
- You need phrase frequency and related queries
- You need monthly, weekly or daily demand seasonality
- You need to compare demand across regions or find a region ID by city name
Not a fit when
- You have no Yandex Cloud access with Search API enabled
- You need Yandex Direct data or ready clusters rather than raw frequencies
Example request
Check the frequency of "buy a vacuum cleaner" for Moscow and show the top related queriesLimitations
You need a Yandex Cloud API key or IAM token and a Folder ID; Search API calls are billed per Yandex Cloud pricing. getDynamics supports only the '+' operator and rejects the rest. The region tree is cached locally in a .saved file and refreshed manually via a separate tool.
How to disable. Remove the server from your MCP client config (e.g. claude mcp remove yandex-wordstat) or delete the .saved directory with the local region cache.
MCP
- Transport
- stdio
- Authentication
- API key
| Environment variables | |
|---|---|
| WORDSTAT_FOLDER_ID required | Yandex Cloud folder ID, required for every request. |
| WORDSTAT_API_KEY secret | Yandex Cloud API key; either this or an IAM token is required. |
| WORDSTAT_IAM_TOKEN secret | Yandex Cloud IAM token; takes priority if set alongside the API key. |
Security check
- Only reads public search query statistics, changes nothing in the user's accounts
- Every Search API call is billed by Yandex Cloud, so balance spend is worth watching
README in short
The bilingual README covers installing via uvx straight from Git, setting up .env with the key and Folder ID, and the tool list: four Wordstat API methods, an operator-aware phrase builder, region lookup with a local cache, and a wordstat_env_health utility. It gives separate setup steps for Claude Desktop, Claude Code and Codex with ready claude mcp add and codex mcp add commands.
FAQ
How does an IAM token differ from an API key?
Both authenticate with Yandex Cloud; if both are set, the server uses the IAM token.
Can it build a phrase with stop words from a plain request?
Yes, build_wordstat_phrase parses a Russian-language request and builds a phrase with the right Wordstat operators.
