Why this level

  • Hooks format code after edits, restore packages and screen shell commands on their own; agents such as the build fixer work in a loop without confirming each step.
  • The `/migrate` command creates EF Core migrations and changes the database schema, so run it against a copy.

How we review

Extended accessThe tool runs code or makes network calls and only reads external data.

  • Hooks format code after edits, restore packages and screen shell commands on their own; agents such as the build fixer work in a loop without confirming each step.
  • The `/migrate` command creates EF Core migrations and changes the database schema, so run it against a copy.

What it does

dotnet-claude-kit teaches Claude Code to write .NET the way experienced developers do: `TimeProvider` instead of `DateTime. Now`, `DbContext` used directly without repositories over EF Core, `IHttpClientFactory` instead of `new HttpClient()`, tests on `WebApplicationFactory` and `Testcontainers`. Knowledge sits in 31 reference skills, and 16 workflows run through slash commands: `/dotnet-init`, `/scaffold`, `/verify`, `/tdd`, `/code-review`, `/security-scan`, `/migrate`, `/arch-check`, `/outdated` and others. Ten specialist agents pick up a task by keywords: architect, API designer, EF Core specialist, test engineer, security auditor and more. Hooks format code after an edit, catch destructive commands and restore packages when a `.csproj` changes. The installed `CWM.RoslynNavigator` MCP server provides 22 tools: symbol and reference search, the source of a single method, an endpoint map, DI registrations. The agent reads 30–150 tokens instead of a whole file.

Who it is for. ASP.NET Core and Blazor developers who work with Claude Code and are tired of fixing outdated code patterns.

Good fit when

  • A new .NET project must be set up with a choice between Vertical Slice, Clean Architecture and DDD.
  • Claude Code writes repositories over EF Core and `DateTime. Now`, and that has to stop.
  • Before a merge you need a pull request review with blast radius and architecture violations.
  • A large codebase eats the context and navigation should move to Roslyn queries.
  • NuGet packages need a check for vulnerabilities and licensing traps.

Not a fit when

  • The project is not .NET: the rules, agents and MCP tools are built for C# and .NET 10.
  • Hooks cannot run and `.claude/rules/` cannot change in a team repository without agreement.
  • You need only the official .NET team skills, which are a separate project.

Example request

`/dotnet-init`, then `/scaffold` an "order creation" feature with validation, pagination and Testcontainers tests.

Limitations

The kit targets .NET 10 and C# 14, and on older versions some advice will not fit. The MCP server needs a global `dotnet tool install -g CWM.RoslynNavigator`, and on macOS and Linux you sometimes have to set `DOTNET_ROOT`. The plugin does not load the ten rules from `.claude/rules/` itself: you copy them into the project. Some recommendations follow the author's choices, such as the Result pattern, Wolverine and Polly v8. The hooks are tested in CI on Windows and Linux. The last commit was made in August 2026, the license is MIT.

How to disable. Disable the plugin through `/plugin`, remove the MCP server with `dotnet tool uninstall -g CWM.RoslynNavigator` and delete the copied rules from `.claude/rules/`.

FAQ

How do I install dotnet-claude-kit in Claude Code?

First `dotnet tool install -g CWM.RoslynNavigator`, then inside Claude Code `/plugin marketplace add codewithmukesh/dotnet-claude-kit` and `/plugin install dotnet-claude-kit`. Skills, agents, hooks and the MCP connection activate globally.

What does the /dotnet-init command do?

For an existing project it finds the solution, reads the SDKs from `.csproj`, asks architecture questions and creates `CLAUDE.md`. For a new project it builds the solution structure with `dotnet new sln`, adds `Directory.Build.props` and then writes `CLAUDE.md`.

Which architectures are supported?

Vertical Slice, Clean Architecture, DDD and Modular Monolith. The `architecture-advisor` skill asks about the domain first and only then gives a recommendation with a rationale.

Why do I need the Roslyn MCP server?

It answers pointed queries such as `find_references` or `get_symbol_source`, so the agent does not read a whole file. Each tool caps the size of its answer and reports truncation.

How do I turn on the project rules?

The plugin ships ten rule files but does not load them automatically. Copy them into your project's `.claude/rules/` and they load into every session.

The README opens with the problem: Claude Code does not know your .NET conventions by default. Installation, before and after code samples, tables of commands, skills, agents, rules, templates and Roslyn tools, and the knowledge base documents follow.
