How we reviewExtended accessThe tool runs code or makes network calls and only reads external data.

What it does
Reviewable HTML Workbench moves the discussion of a document with the agent into the document itself. The agent builds an HTML bundle with structure, diagrams and images, and you open the preview, select text or an image and leave a comment right there. Comments are stored as JSON tied to the fragment, so nothing is lost between iterations. Each comment thread gets a status: needs_agent_review, needs_user_reply or resolved. It shows whose turn it is. The agent reads the threads waiting on it and replies in the same thread. The finished document exports as one self-contained HTML file. The plugin includes three skills. visual-html-renderer makes formatted HTML with diagrams. reviewable-design-doc builds a design document and runs the revision loop on comments. plan-preview shows a Plan Mode plan as a temporary HTML page before work starts.
Who it is for. For developers and analysts who ask an agent to write design docs, reports and comparisons and want to comment on them inline.
Good fit when
- The agent prepared a ten-page design doc and notes on specific paragraphs are easier to leave on the page itself
- You need an HTML report with Mermaid diagrams and images that you can hand to a colleague as one file
- Before implementation you want to see a Plan Mode plan as a page with phases, dependencies and test coverage
- You want the agent to read all comment threads itself, reply in them and update the document after your decision
Not a fit when
- You need a real-time collaborative editor for several people: the plugin runs a loop between you and the agent on a local preview
- You need to show the preview to colleagues and have no Tailscale: then the page is reachable only on your machine
- You just want a plain text reply in the chat: the preview loop is overkill for short questions
Example request
Create a design doc about the queue migration in HTML that I can comment on in the browserLimitations
Python 3.11 or newer is required, with no external packages for the core runtime. The agent calls the Python commands itself, and you work with the preview link in the browser.
Until a thread is resolved the agent does not apply the agreed edits to the document, so resolve threads after discussion. Claude Code's built-in Artifact tool can publish HTML to claude.ai. To keep content local, turn that tool off with the `disableArtifact` setting.
How to disable. Run `claude plugin uninstall reviewable-html-workbench` and remove the marketplace if needed. For Codex remove the plugin with its plugin management command. A running preview server can be stopped with the bin/kill-review-preview.sh script.
FAQ
How do I install Reviewable HTML Workbench in Claude Code?
Run `claude plugin marketplace add u-ichi/reviewable-html-workbench`, then `claude plugin install reviewable-html-workbench`. For local testing use `claude --plugin-dir /path/to/plugin`.
How do I install the plugin in Codex CLI?
Add the marketplace with `codex plugin marketplace add u-ichi/reviewable-html-workbench`, then run `codex plugin add reviewable-html-workbench@reviewable-html-workbench-local`. Codex installs the plugin as a whole, with English and Japanese skill instructions.
What do the comment thread statuses mean?
needs_agent_review means the thread waits for the agent, needs_user_reply waits for you, and resolved is closed. A reply you post after the agent's answer returns the thread to the agent.
How do I get the final document as a single file?
Switch to the clean reading view with no review UI and download the HTML. The file embeds all styles and images and detects the system light or dark theme on its own.
Is the preview available to other people?
The server prefers a Tailscale address and otherwise listens on 127.0.0.1. The plugin rejects a bind to 0.0.0.0, so by default the preview is visible only to you and your Tailscale network.
