What it does

Mintlify Workflows is a set of Claude Code plugins from Mintlify's documentation repository. The `mintlify-workflows` marketplace manifest describes four plugins for working with documentation: doc-reader, doc-helper, doc-author and doc-reviewer. Each one connects Mintlify's MCP server at `https://mintlify.com/docs/mcp`. doc-reader helps the agent read others' documentation without flooding the context: check `llms.txt` first, then search through MCP or in `llms-full.txt`, and for a single page try the `.md` variant of the address. doc-helper assists with drafts and edits while the final decisions stay with the human. By default doc-author works as a collaborator, and in autonomous mode it writes documentation and opens a pull request but never commits directly. doc-reviewer brings the `review-docs` and `lint-docs` commands and the `document-reviewer` agent, which check style, accuracy and consistency. The plugins are tuned for Mintlify-powered sites, though doc-author's description says they suit any Markdown or MDX.

Who it is for. For technical writers and developers who maintain documentation on Mintlify or in Markdown and want to hand reading, drafts and review to an agent.

Good fit when

  • The agent must understand an API or SDK from a documentation site without filling the whole context window: doc-reader checks `llms.txt` and searches through MCP
  • You need a page draft that you will finish yourself: doc-helper offers options and explains trade-offs
  • A documentation task was handed to the agent through a tracker and it must send a pull request with notes on unverified spots: doc-author's autonomous mode
  • Before merging changes you want a style and consistency pass with the `review-docs` and `lint-docs` commands

Not a fit when

  • You want one specific product's documentation connected: its own MCP server or `llms.txt` is enough
  • A pull request must never be opened without a human: doc-author's autonomous mode exists for that, so stay in collaborative mode
  • The agent has no git access: doc-author needs git and the ability to open pull requests
  • You need your own company style guide: the plugins follow Mintlify's practices and know nothing about your guide

Limitations

The plugin list comes from the marketplace manifest. The repository README only describes previewing Mintlify's documentation with `mint dev`, so the install commands below are assembled from the manifest names by Claude Code's usual scheme. The plugins sit in the `.claude` folder next to Mintlify's working documentation, and the repository does not release them as a separate package.

doc-author needs git access and the ability to open a pull request, and it is tuned for Mintlify-powered sites. doc-reader needs internet access and works best with sites that have MCP and `llms.txt`. All four plugins connect Mintlify's MCP server over HTTP. In autonomous mode doc-author leaves TODO notes for unverified material and describes doubts in the pull request, but the merge decision stays with a human. The first plugins carry version 0.1.0 in the manifest, so the command set and behavior may change.

How to disable. Open the `/plugin` menu in Claude Code and remove the plugins you installed from the mintlify-workflows marketplace. If you copied skills into `.claude/skills/` by hand, delete the doc-reader, doc-helper and doc-author folders there.

FAQ

How do I install Mintlify's documentation plugins in Claude Code?

Add the marketplace with `/plugin marketplace add mintlify/docs` and install the plugin you need, for example `/plugin install doc-reader@mintlify-workflows`. The names come from the manifest: doc-reader, doc-helper, doc-author and doc-reviewer. The repository README has no separate instructions.

How is doc-reader different from just reading a page?

It walks the agent through an order: check `llms.txt` and the site's MCP server, search `llms-full.txt` or use MCP, try the `.md` variant of an address for one page, and read HTML only for an overview. The context gets the piece you need, not the whole documentation.

Does doc-author write straight into the main branch?

No. According to the skill description, in autonomous mode it writes documentation and opens a pull request and makes no direct commits. By default it works collaboratively: drafts for you and questions before guesses.

What is in doc-reviewer?

Two commands, `review-docs` and `lint-docs`, and the `document-reviewer` agent. The plugin catches style problems, verifies accuracy and keeps updated documentation consistent.

Do I need a Mintlify account?

In the manifest the MCP server connects at `https://mintlify.com/docs/mcp` and no API keys are listed for it. The repository does not describe authorization further, so check it at first connection.
