Access and checks
How we reviewBroad accessThe tool can change data, run commands or handle secrets.
- The agent reads channels and private messages and sends and schedules messages in your name
- Permissions follow your Slack account, and OAuth sign-in opens access to workspace data
This is third-party code. Review the repository files before installing.
What it does
The plugin from the Slack team connects Claude Code, Cursor and Codex to a Slack workspace and adds a set of Slack skills. It consists of Slack's hosted MCP server, nine skills and five slash commands. Sign-in uses OAuth on first use, and on install in Claude Code and Cursor the MCP server is wired up automatically. The MCP server searches messages, files, users and channels, private ones included, sends and schedules messages, reads channels and threads, adds reactions, creates, reads and updates canvases, and reads profiles and channel member lists. Nine skills load on demand. For users there are `slack-messaging` (well-formed messages) and `slack-search`. For developers: `slack-api` (Web API methods), `slack-docs` (the right documentation page), `slack-cli`, `create-slack-app` (an app on Bolt), `test-slack-app`, `deploy-slack-app` (deploy to Railway or Heroku) and `block-kit` (designing and validating layouts). Slash commands: `/slack:summarize-channel`, `/slack:find-discussions`, `/slack:draft-announcement`, `/slack:standup` and `/slack:channel-digest`.
Who it is for. For teams that work in Slack and want to read, search and write messages from Claude Code, Cursor or Codex, and for developers of Slack apps on Bolt.
Good fit when
- You want a one-day activity summary of a channel with `/slack:summarize-channel` instead of scrolling the feed
- You need to find discussions of a topic across channels: `/slack:find-discussions` with the topic name
- You need to prepare an announcement and save it as a draft in Slack without sending it at once
- You want a standup update built from your own recent Slack activity
- You are developing a Slack app and need to build it on Bolt, validate Block Kit JSON and deploy to Railway or Heroku
Not a fit when
- You need a server entirely on your own computer: the Slack MCP server here is hosted by Slack itself
- You need the MCP server in Codex: the plugin currently ships only the skills there and the MCP server is not wired up
- You want only the skills without a plugin and without MCP: other agents install through `npx skills`, which carries neither commands nor the MCP server
- You need writes that are off by default and limited to a channel list, or token-based sign-in: korotovsky/slack-mcp-server fits that
Example request
Summarize the last day of activity in #engineering and draft an announcement that the release is doneLimitations
The workspace admin must approve the MCP integration, otherwise signing in to Slack is impossible. In Codex the plugin ships only the skills, and the MCP server is not yet wired up there. Installing the skills with `npx skills add` gives the skills only, with no commands and no MCP server.
Sign-in uses OAuth on first use, so the tools' permissions follow your Slack account. The repository holds manifests for Claude Code, Cursor and Codex, a `.mcp.json` file and skill tests. The MCP server is hosted by Slack, and the plugin itself is MIT. Slack availability from Russia was not checked for this card.
How to disable. In Claude Code disable or remove the plugin through the /plugin command and open its details. In Cursor remove the plugin in the Marketplace. The app's access can be revoked in the Slack workspace integration settings. Remove skills installed through npx skills from the agent's skills directory.
FAQ
How do I install Slack skills in Claude Code?
Run /plugin install slack@claude-plugins-official inside Claude Code. The MCP server connects automatically, and on first use an OAuth sign-in to your Slack workspace opens.
How do I install the Slack plugin in Cursor and Codex?
In Cursor run /add-plugin slack, which installs skills, commands and the MCP server together. In Codex add the marketplace with codex plugin marketplace add slackapi/slack-skills-plugin and install the plugin with codex plugin add slack@slack. In Codex only the skills are available so far.
Can I install Slack skills in Gemini CLI and OpenCode?
Yes, with npx skills add slackapi/slack-skills-plugin -y -a gemini-cli or -a opencode. That brings the skills only, with no slash commands and no MCP server. The -g flag installs for the user instead of the project.
What slash commands does the Slack plugin provide?
Five: /slack:summarize-channel (channel summary), /slack:find-discussions (find discussions of a topic), /slack:draft-announcement (a draft announcement), /slack:standup (a standup from your activity) and /slack:channel-digest (a digest across several channels).
How does sign-in to Slack work through the plugin?
Sign-in uses OAuth on the first call to the MCP server: the client opens the Slack authorization page. The tools work with your account's permissions.

README in short
The description calls the plugin a bundle of Slack MCP and skills and splits installation by client: Claude Code through the official marketplace, Cursor through its Marketplace, Codex through a marketplace in this repository and other agents through `npx skills`. Then come blocks on MCP server capabilities, nine skills with descriptions and five commands, request examples and links to Slack documentation. The one limitation named is admin approval of the integration.
