What it does
UModel is a local semantic layer for enterprise data: models describe entities, links, datasets and topology, and queries run through one surface of `.umodel`, `.entity` and `.topo`. The repository contains the service, the `umctl` CLI, the `umodel-mcp` MCP server, a web UI and examples. The `umodel` plugin installs three skills in Claude Code: reading entities, relations and the model itself, running entity-linked RunbookSet skills, and root-cause analysis over the graph. Other agents take the same `SKILL.md` files from the `skills/` directory and copy them into their own skills folder.
Who it is for. Operations and observability engineers who keep a service model and topology in one graph and want an agent to trace incident causes through it.
Good fit when

- Response procedures are stored as RunbookSet entries linked to entities.
- The same three skills are needed in Codex or Cursor from the shared `skills/` folder.
Not a fit when
- There is no running UModel service and model pack.
- You only need a data dictionary with no agent queries.
- The environment forbids local Go and Node.js services.

The plugin does not work alone: a running UModel service comes first. Building needs Go 1.22 and Node.js 22, and `make quickstart` starts a demo workspace. The `memory` storage provider loses data on stop. A cloud control plane and multi-tenant authorization are not part of the open core. The plugin manifest version is 0.1.0. Sample packs sit in `examples/`, but a model for your own infrastructure has to be authored by you.
How to disable. Run `/plugin uninstall umodel@unifiedmodel`, then stop services with `make stop-all`. Workspace data sits in the `--data` directory and is deleted separately.

Copy the three `SKILL.md` files into the agent skills folder: `.agents/skills/` for Codex, `.qoder/skills/` for Qoder, `.claude/skills/` for Claude Code.

Yes, `umodel-mcp` from the same repository. Start with `umctl agent discover demo`, then connect an MCP client.
Which graph stores are supported?
`memory`, `file.memory`, `local.ladybug`, `neo4j` and `gremlin`, selected with the `--graphstore` flag.
How can I try it quickly?
Run `make quickstart`: the API and web UI start with a demo workspace named `demo`, and no data remains after it stops.
