What it does
The plugin lets Claude watch VK video it otherwise cannot: it downloads a clip from a link (video page, clip, embed, wall link or playlist link), extracts the audio, runs it through whisper and cuts frames on scene changes. Claude then reads a timestamped transcript and looks at frames instead of summarizing a title. Installed as a skill, it only works where local code runs: Claude Code, the Code tab in Claude Desktop, or Cowork. For the regular Claude Desktop chat, which runs in Anthropic's cloud sandbox with no access to your ffmpeg or disk, the repo ships a separate MCP server with the same pipeline behind an analyze_vk_video tool. No VK API token is needed in either mode.

Good fit when

It needs a local ffmpeg, which pip does not install, and the cloud sandbox on claude.ai does not have it. Without the faster-whisper package the plugin returns video with frames and a warning that there will be no transcript. The author is upfront that the transcript is untrusted text from the internet and may contain instructions, so it should be treated as a quote, not a command. Browser cookies are off by default, limiting access to private or age-restricted clips.
How to disable. Run /plugin uninstall vk-video in Claude Code, or remove the vk-video entry from mcpServers in claude_desktop_config.json.

The Russian README states the problem plainly: Claude cannot watch VK video, and the plugin fixes that by downloading the clip and extracting audio and frames. A table shows where the skill works versus where the MCP server is needed: the Claude Code terminal, the Code tab and Cowork support the skill directly, the regular Desktop chat needs the MCP server, and claude.ai in a browser does not work at all. Do I need a VK API token?
No, neither the skill nor the MCP server uses one.
Why doesn't the plugin just work in a regular Claude Desktop chat?
The regular chat runs code in Anthropic's cloud sandbox with no access to your ffmpeg or disk, so the repo ships a separate MCP server that Desktop runs locally instead.
