Why this level
- The skills tell the agent to run `./gradlew`, the `android` command and Python scripts in your project
- The android-cli skill offers to download and run an installer from dl.google.com
- The play-policy-insights scripts read your app's page in the Play Store
Install
- Works in
In your terminal, with SkillFoxx CLI
npx skillfoxx add skills/android-skillsDetects the agents on your machine, shows the access level and pins the version.

What it does
Android skills is a repository where the Android team collected 30 skills in the SKILL.md format. Each skill covers one Android development task and draws on material from developer.android.com. The authors focus on tasks where AI models tend to underperform in their evaluations and leave out what models already handle, such as basic Jetpack Compose practice. Skills are grouped by topic: build, camera, cars, on-device AI, identity, Compose, media, navigation, performance, Google Play, profilers, security, system, testing, TV and Wear. The agent picks a skill on its own from the description at the top of SKILL.md. The agp-9-upgrade skill moves a project to Android Gradle Plugin 9 and is not meant for Kotlin Multiplatform projects. The r8-analyzer skill reads the build files and `proguard-rules.pro`, picks one of three analysis paths by the AGP and R8 versions, runs `./gradlew :app:analyzeReleaseR8Config` or Python scripts and writes a report on redundant `keep` rules. The android-profiler skill records and analyzes Perfetto traces: UI jank, dropped frames, ANRs, slow startup and memory leaks. The edge-to-edge skill fixes insets under system bars in Compose apps. The android-intent-security skill audits components in `AndroidManifest.xml` and the handling of incoming Intents. The android-cli skill teaches the agent to work with the `android` command: create a project from a template, install SDK packages, run the app, manage emulators, take screenshots and search the Android documentation. The play-policy-insights skill compares the app code with its Google Play declarations and builds a policy compliance report.
Who it is for. For Android developers who write Kotlin and Jetpack Compose, upgrade Gradle builds, optimize apps and prepare Google Play releases.
Good fit when
- A project has to move to Android Gradle Plugin 9 without breaking the build
- A Compose app has buttons covered by the navigation bar or status bar and needs edge-to-edge support
- The release size grew and you need to clean redundant or overly broad R8 keep rules
- Before submitting to Google Play you want to check permissions and data collection against the declarations
- An app hangs on startup or drops frames and you need a Perfetto trace recorded and analyzed
Not a fit when
- You build for iOS or the web, or have a Kotlin Multiplatform project: the `agp-9-upgrade` skill is not meant for such projects
- You need general Kotlin and backend practice rather than Android: the catalog has kotlin-agent-skills for that
- You need a reference for basic Jetpack Compose practice: the authors deliberately leave it out, Compose Agent Skill fits better
- You want the skill to submit the app to Google Play: it prepares a report and does not publish
Example request
Make my app edge-to-edge: the buttons at the bottom of the screen must not slide under the navigation barLimitations
The set targets Android development. Without `--all`, the `android skills add` command installs only the `android-cli` skill; the rest are added by name or all at once. If the machine has no agent directories and no agent is named, skills go to `~/.gemini/antigravity/skills` for Gemini and Antigravity.
The `android-cli` skill needs the `android` command installed; if it is missing, the skill points to an installer on dl.google.com. The path in `r8-analyzer` depends on versions. With AGP 9.3.0 or newer a standalone Gradle task runs. With an older AGP and R8 9.3.7-dev or newer you need Python with the `protobuf` package. Otherwise only a manual review of the rules remains.
The `play-policy-insights` skill reads the app's page in the Play Store and stops if the orchestrator fails: it does not fall back to a manual audit.
The authors remind you that AI can make mistakes and the result must be double-checked. Outside contributions are not accepted for now; feedback and requests for new skills go to GitHub issues. The license is Apache-2.0.
How to disable. Delete the folder of the skill you no longer need from the agent's skills directory. The Claude Code plugin is removed from the `/plugin` menu. The `play-policy-insights` scripts write only to the `.scratch/play_policy_insights_<uuid>` directory in the workspace, which you can delete.
FAQ
Do I have to call a skill by hand?
No, the agent attaches a suitable skill from its description. To steer it, name the task in the request, for example make the UI edge-to-edge.
How do I install one skill instead of all thirty?
`android skills add r8-analyzer --project=.` installs the `r8-analyzer` skill into the current project. The `--agent` flag limits the list of agents and `--project` sets the project root.
How do I update the skills?
`android skills update --all` updates every skill and `android skills update wear-compose-m3` updates one.
Does the set work with Claude Code and Codex?
Yes. The repository has plugin manifests for both agents, `.claude-plugin/plugin.json` and `.codex-plugin/plugin.json`, both listing the skills of the set.
What does the play-policy-insights skill do?
It runs static analysis of the app code, compares it with the Google Play declarations and produces a report in three areas: data safety, user accounts and identity, permissions and API hygiene. Check the result by hand before submitting the app.

README in short
The repository has 30 skill folders, and most keep a references directory with excerpts of the Android documentation next to SKILL.md. Skills that run tools ship scripts and templates, and play-policy-insights adds policy files in JSON. The root describes installation through the Android CLI and through the Claude Code and Codex plugins and links to the documentation at developer.android.com. Automation in `.github/workflows` updates skills and cuts releases, the latest being v1.0.15.
