Blender Developer Tools
Skills, rules, snippets, templates and runnable examples for Blender Python development on 5.2 LTS with a 4.5 LTS fallback
Low risk
We rate an entry low when it mostly gives the agent instructions and reference material.
Why this level
- It is methods, rules and example code for local development, the set itself executes nothing
Install
Manual install
git clone https://github.com/TMHSDigital/Blender-Developer-Tools.gitClone the repository, there is no build step.
This is third-party code. Review the repository files before installing.
What it does
The set gives a coding agent solid footing in Blender's Python API. Skills are step-by-step methods for common tasks: add-on scaffolding for the Extensions Platform, operators and panels, properties, mesh and bmesh work, geometry nodes, procedural materials, depsgraph queries, drivers and handlers, headless batch processing, the video sequencer, and engine export presets. Rules are guardrails against frequent agent mistakes such as operators in loops, bmesh leaks or legacy bl_info. Snippets, templates and dozens of examples show canonical patterns, and the examples run headless on Blender 5.2 and 4.5, so the code in them actually executes. There is no build step, the markdown and Python files are edited directly.
Who it is for. For developers building Blender add-ons and Python pipelines, and 3D artists who write tooling with an agent.
Good fit when
- An agent writes or fixes a Blender add-on and must stick to the modern API
- You need working patterns for geometry nodes, bmesh, drivers or headless processing
- You need to account for API differences between Blender 4.5 and 5.x
Not a fit when
- The task is not about Blender Python development
- You need to modify and redistribute the material commercially, which the license forbids
Example request
Scaffold a Blender add-on for the Extensions Platform with blender_manifest.toml and register_classes_factory registrationLimitations
The material targets Blender 5.2 LTS as the primary version with 4.5 LTS fallback, and patterns may diverge on other versions. The text is in English. The CC BY-NC-ND 4.0 license allows use with attribution but forbids commercial use and distribution of modified versions. The examples are scripts you run in Blender yourself, they do not execute automatically.
How to disable. Remove the copied skills/ and rules/ folders from the project, or drop the reference to the checkout from your agent config. In Cursor unlink rules/ or the symlink.
Security check

README in short
The README describes the repository as a set of skills, rules, templates, snippets and runnable examples for Blender Python development, consumed by coding agents like Cursor and Claude Code. Skills give methods, rules catch common mistakes, templates are starter add-ons and pipelines, snippets show canonical patterns. Examples run headless on Blender 5.2 and 4.5 through CI, so the screenshots reflect code that actually works. Setup is simple: git clone and reference from Cursor, or copy folders for Claude Code, with no build step. CC BY-NC-ND 4.0 license.
SKILL.md
--- name: addon-scaffolding description: Scaffold a Blender add-on against the Extensions Platform format with blender_manifest.toml, modular file layout, and the register_classes_factory pattern. Targets Blender 5.2 LTS with 4.5 LTS fallback. standards-version: 1.10.0 --- # Addon Scaffolding (Extensions Platform) ## Trigger Use this skill when the user: - Wants to start a new Blender add-on - Mentions `bl_info`, `blender_manifest.toml`, "extension", "register_classes_factory" - Is migrating an existing add-on from the legacy `bl_info` format to the Extensions Platform - Is unsure which file layout or registration pattern to use for Blender 4.5+ or 5.x ## Required inputs - **Add-on name and short id** (snake_case for the manifest `id`, human-readable `name`) - **Target Blender versions** (defaults to `blender_version_min = "4.5.0"` so the add-on works on 4.5 LTS and 5.1) - **Maintainer string** (`Name <email@example.com>` form) - **License SPDX identifier** (`SPDX:MIT`, `SPDX:GPL-2.0-or-later`, etc.)
FAQ
Is this a Blender add-on?
No. It is a set of skills, rules, snippets and examples for a coding agent that writes Blender code. There is no build step, the content is attached by copying folders or referencing a checkout.
Are different Blender versions covered?
Yes. The primary target is 5.2 LTS, fallback paths are shown for 4.5 LTS where the APIs diverge, and the examples run in CI on both versions.
