What it does
Claudemy starts from a topic: on "teach me negotiation" the skill breaks it into sub-topics the way it is usually taught. It then reads 20 to 40 pages, no more than three from one site: practitioners, official docs and research summaries. A few sources are picked on purpose for a dissenting view. Reader agents write cited notes, and one agent merges them into themes with agreement counts. The course is planned in arcs of about four lessons, foundations first. The skill makes one sample lesson and waits for your reaction, then writes and records the rest: about 12 audio lessons of two minutes with two hosts talking. Each lesson comes with a card holding a three-line idea, one small thing to try and links. The rule from every lesson is collected into a playbook file. You can also build a class from one person's work. The phrase "teach me negotiation from <name>'s writing" makes the skill find their Substack or blog.
Who it is for. For people who want to get into a topic from current sources and listen to lessons on the go, without a long video course.
Good fit when
- You want a skill such as negotiation, public speaking or SQL and two minutes a day is enough
- You want to see where experts split: the lesson plan lays out the decisions
- You want a course built from one author's writing on their Substack or blog
- You need cards for each lesson and one rules file you can keep and reread
- A topic well covered on the open web, such as wine, stoicism or music theory
Not a fit when
- You need a certificate or a knowledge check: the course is audio and cards
- A health, legal or financial topic where advice depends on your situation: the skill adds a note but does not replace a consultation
- You need a finished course right now: a research, reading and recording session takes long
- Claude Code has no web search: without it the skill cannot gather sources
Example request
teach me negotiationLimitations
You need Claude Code with web search, Python 3 with beautifulsoup4 and ffmpeg. Natural two-voice lessons need an ElevenLabs key in ELEVENLABS_API_KEY or in the plugin's configuration prompt, where it is kept in the OS keychain. Without a key macOS built-in voices are used: free but plainer. pandoc is optional for a Word copy of the cards.
A 12-lesson course is a long Claude Code session: research, reading, writing and about 25 minutes of generated audio. The skill fetches public pages and keeps them in a local workspace folder. The skill has no server and no analytics. Topics work where the open web writes about them well.
How to disable. Delete the claudemy folder from ~/.claude/skills if you copied it by hand, or disable the claudemy plugin in the /plugin menu. Courses stay in the workspace folder: delete it if you no longer need them. Remove the ElevenLabs key from the environment variable or plugin settings.
FAQ
How do I install Claudemy in Claude Code?
As a plugin: /plugin marketplace add assafkip/claudemy, then /plugin install claudemy@claudemy. Or copy skills/claudemy into ~/.claude/skills, or download claudemy.skill from the latest release. After installing, type "teach me <topic>".
How is Claudemy different from Udemy and Coursera?
Platforms sell a course recorded once. Claudemy builds a course on the topic and level you name from current sources and shows where the sources disagree. A lesson takes two minutes and ends in one thing to try, so the course is built to be finished.
Can I use it without ElevenLabs?
Yes, on a Mac the skill voices lessons with the system's built-in voices. The cards and the rules file work with no audio at all. ElevenLabs voices change through CLAUDEMY_VOICE_A and CLAUDEMY_VOICE_B, macOS voices through CLAUDEMY_SAY_A and CLAUDEMY_SAY_B.
How does the skill keep its sources real?
A citation checker rejects any lesson that cites a page the research did not read. Each lesson states how many sources agree with its idea and who disagrees.
What data leaves my computer?
The skill fetches the public web pages it researches. If an ElevenLabs key is set, the lesson text goes there for audio. The skill has no server and collects no analytics.

README in short
A sample lesson, "Your Walk-Away", from a negotiation course comes first: 2:27 of two hosts talking with a card beside it. A separate section lists where data goes, and the closing questions cover price and suitable topics.

name: claudemy
description: Turn any topic into a short audio course. Researches the topic on the web, works out what most good sources agree on and where they split, then writes and renders a broken-down set of 2-minute two-host audio lessons, each with a one-screen card and one small thing to try. Can also build the class from one specific person's work when asked. Use this whenever someone wants to learn a skill or subject ("teach me X", "make me a course on X", "I want to learn how to X", "break X down into lessons", "audio lessons on X", "a class on X from someone's writing", "podcast-style lessons"), even if they don't say "audio" or "class".

# Claudemy
Give it a topic; it researches it and hands back a course someone will actually finish. Each lesson is about 2 minutes of two voices talking, plus a card with the idea in three lines and one small thing to try. Every claim traces back to a page the class really read, and every lesson says how widely the sources agree.
Why this shape: short audio gets heard, one small practice gets done, a rule written into a playbook gets kept, and a citation to a real page keeps the lessons honest.
## Inputs
- **Topic** (required): "negotiation", "sourdough baking", "technical interviewing".
- **Lesson count**: default 12 (three arcs of four). The user can ask for more or fewer.
- **Level**: beginner by default. Use what the user says ("I already know the basics").
- **A person** (optional): "teach me negotiation from Chris Voss's writing". Then the class is built from that person's own published work, and research mode is skipped or used only to fill gaps (say which).
The class is general. It does not read the user's project files, notes or settings, and lessons don't assume anything about the learner beyond what they said in the request.
## Workspace
Everything for one class lives in `./claudemy/<topic-slug>/` under the current directory:
```
sources.json the reading list (and the person, if one was asked for)
raw/web/ each researched page, one markdown file, front matter with url
raw/<person>/ that person's posts, only in person mode
research/ topics.md, notes/<batch>.md, agreement-map.md
class/lesson-plan.md
class/NN-<handle>/ script.txt, card.md, <handle>.mp3
class/playbook.md the rules the learner keeps
deliver/ zips and combined cards
```
Scripts live next to this file in `scripts/`. Call them by absolute path.
## Before starting
Check what's available and say what's missing in one line: `python3`, the `beautifulsoup4` package (`pip install beautifulsoup4`), `ffmpeg`. Audio uses ElevenLabs when `ELEVENLABS_API_KEY` is set (the plugin's configuration prompt sets it for you) (the natural two-voice sound) and the free macOS voices otherwise. If the user keeps the key in a file, source it in the same shell command as the render; never print it or copy it into the workspace.
## Step 1. Map the topic
Write `research/topics.md`: 12 to 18 sub-topic ids (T01 to T18) that together cover what a learner at this level gets from a good course. Search first to see how the topic is usually taught; don't guess the syllabus from memory. Every reader files notes under these ids, so sources can be compared.
