What it does
The skill turns the agent into a thorough interviewer. It walks the decision tree of your plan, resolves dependencies between decisions one by one and does not stop until you both reach a shared understanding. Every question arrives through the AskUserQuestion tool as a popup with answer options, and an Other field is always available. Only one question is asked at a time; the next follows your answer and a one- or two-sentence acknowledgment. If the code or files can answer a question, the agent looks there itself. At the end it gives a short summary of the decisions made. It starts on the phrase grill me or a request to stress-test a plan.
Who it is for. For people who want to check a plan or architecture by interview before work, instead of writing a detailed brief up front.
Good fit when
- You have a draft plan and want to find holes before writing code
- A feature design has many forks and the decisions depend on each other
- You want to answer by clicking options rather than typing paragraphs
- Some questions can be settled by reading the codebase, and the agent should check it itself
- You need a summary of decisions after the discussion
Not a fit when
- The task is small and clear: an interview only slows you down
- You want a finished plan or spec; the skill does not write one, it extracts decisions
- Your client lacks AskUserQuestion: the instruction routes every question through that tool
- You want clarifications in a batch: the skill asks strictly one at a time
Example request
Grill me on this database migration plan: go through every fork and give a summary of decisions at the endLimitations
The skill is a single SKILL.md file and runs nothing. It targets Claude Code and Cowork, and behavior in other clients without AskUserQuestion is not described. The repository names no license. The rules sit in a single file, so behavior is easy to adapt: just edit SKILL.md. All questions go through AskUserQuestion, and without it the skill loses its main convenience. The skill does not read or change files by itself; the agent does that under ordinary Claude Code permissions. The instruction sets no language for questions, so the agent follows the language of your request.
How to disable. Delete the grill-me file or folder from ~/.claude/skills/. The skill triggers only on the phrase grill me or a request to stress-test a plan.
FAQ
How do I install the grill me skill in Claude Code?
Copy SKILL.md, or the whole folder, into ~/.claude/skills/grill-me/. The skill then fires on the phrase grill me or a request to stress-test a plan.
How is grill-me different from ordinary clarifying questions?
There is always one question with 2–4 options in an AskUserQuestion popup and an Other field. The agent walks the decision tree of your plan and settles what the code already shows by itself.
Does grill-me work outside Claude Code?
The description names Claude Code and Cowork. Behavior elsewhere is not described, and the questions go through the AskUserQuestion tool, which other clients may lack.
Why does grill-me ask questions one at a time?
The instruction keeps the conversation focused and avoids overload. After your answer the agent acknowledges the decision in a sentence or two and moves straight to the next question.
What do I get at the end of a grill-me interview?
Once every branch is resolved, the agent gives a concise summary of the decisions made.
