What it does
Markdown Exporter is a skill for agents and a `markdown-exporter` command-line program that converts a Markdown file into working formats. Text becomes a Word document, PDF, HTML, a PNG or SVG image, a Jupyter notebook, a Markdown file or LaTeX, and tables become Excel, CSV, JSON, XML and LaTeX. Pandoc-style slides turn into PowerPoint. Each format is its own subcommand: `md_to_docx`, `md_to_pdf`, `md_to_pptx`, `md_to_xlsx` and others. For DOCX and PPTX you can supply your own template with the headings, fonts and tables you need. The separate `md_to_codeblock` subcommand pulls code blocks out of Markdown and saves them to files by language: `.py`, `.js`, `.sh` and so on. All commands take file paths as input. Processing is local and no data is sent anywhere. The same project ships as a Dify plugin and an OpenClaw skill, and Claude Code adds it through the plugin marketplace.
Who it is for. For analysts, documentation authors and developers whose agent writes reports and tables in Markdown but who need Word, Excel, PowerPoint or PDF files.
Good fit when
- An agent wrote a report in Markdown and you need a Word document in a corporate template
- Tables from the answer should go to Excel, CSV or JSON
- Pandoc-syntax slides must become a PowerPoint deck
- Code blocks from an agent answer need to be split into files with the right extensions
- Data cannot go to online converters: everything runs on your machine
Not a fit when
- You need the reverse conversion from DOCX, PDF or PPTX to Markdown: the tool only exports
- Your source text is not saved to a file: every command takes paths only
- You need exact book or paper typesetting: your own LaTeX pipeline fits better
- You need a general format converter such as DOCX to EPUB: Markdown Exporter starts from Markdown
Example request
Export report.md to report.docx with Markdown Exporter and save its tables separately to tables.xlsxLimitations
Installation needs Python and packages pulled in by `pip install md-exporter` or `uv tool install md-exporter`. Commands accept only file paths, so the agent must first save the Markdown to disk. Input for `md_to_pptx` must be Pandoc-style slides, and `md_to_xlsx`, `md_to_csv`, `md_to_json` and `md_to_xml` need Markdown tables. The package bundles Noto Sans CJK and Twemoji fonts, so CJK characters and emoji need no separate font install.
How to disable. Run `pip uninstall md-exporter` or `uv tool uninstall md-exporter`, and remove the skill through `/plugin` in Claude Code or by deleting its folder from the agent's skills folder.
FAQ
How do I install Markdown Exporter in Claude Code?
Run `/plugin marketplace add bowenliang123/markdown-exporter`. The program itself installs with `pip install md-exporter` or `uv tool install md-exporter`, after which `markdown-exporter -h` lists subcommands.
Which formats can Markdown Exporter produce?
DOCX, PDF, HTML, PNG, SVG, Markdown, Jupyter notebook, PPTX, XLSX, CSV, JSON and JSONL, XML, LaTeX, Jira wiki text and code files by language. More than fifteen outputs in all.
Can I use my own Word template?
Yes, `md_to_docx` accepts a custom DOCX template that sets heading, paragraph, table and list styles. PPTX templates work the same way for slides.
How do I extract code from Markdown into files?
The `md_to_codeblock` subcommand saves code blocks into files by block language: `.py`, `.js`, `.sh` and others. The input Markdown is passed as a path.
What does the strip-wrapper flag do?
The `--strip-wrapper` flag on subcommands such as `md_to_csv` removes a code block wrapper around the table before processing. It helps when an agent returned a table inside a code block.

README in short
The README shows the project in four forms: a Dify plugin, a skill for Agent Skills hosts, an OpenClaw skill and a command-line program from PyPI. It then gives a table of tools and formats, per-subcommand examples with sample Markdown and options, and notes on DOCX and PPTX templates.
