How we review

Extended accessThe tool runs code or makes network calls and only reads external data.

  • The agent installs npm packages, runs ffmpeg and Chromium and writes project files.
  • Game deployment goes to your Vercel account: review the commands before running.
  • Parallel subagents burn through a plan limit fast.

This is third-party code. Review the repository files before installing.

What it does

The `procedural-film` skill makes a short film or small game from a topic with no media files at all. Frames are drawn in JavaScript on a canvas and sound is built with Web Audio. It has three modes: drawn and photo-doodle vertical films, retro pixel-art films at 60 fps, and an NES-style platformer. The output is one self-contained HTML player plus MP4. The platformer starts from a ROBOT RUN template and deploys to your Vercel account. The agent runs parallel subagents, one per shot, then waves of critics review each scene. The repository holds a reference film on the monarch butterfly life cycle: 17 shots, 32 seconds, 1080x1920.

Who it is for. Short-form creators and indie developers who want an animation or mini-game built in code, without stock footage or video generators.

Good fit when

  • A vertical film on a plant or animal life cycle is needed for social networks.
  • You want a pixel-art retro film with chip music and no external assets.
  • An NES-style mini-game must reach Vercel through one agent run.
  • A client needs a single HTML file that opens offline with no media files.
  • A team tests how well an agent handles a long multi-step pipeline.

Not a fit when

  • You need photoreal frames or footage of real people.
  • Your plan limit is small: a film uses a large share of the allowance.
  • The machine lacks Node.js 20, ffmpeg or Chromium for Playwright.

Example request

Make a procedural film about the life of a honeybee: vertical format, about 30 seconds, one HTML player and an MP4.

Limitations

Node.js 20 or newer, ffmpeg on `PATH` and Chromium for Playwright are required; the Vercel CLI is only needed to deploy a game. The agent must run skills and parallel subagents, for example Claude Code. A run is long: each shot spawns a subagent writing a scene of 1000+ lines, then critic waves follow, so plan usage is high. The look imitates a film by Kevin Ngo, and the Claude Quest example is not affiliated with Anthropic.

How to disable. Remove the link `~/.claude/skills/procedural-film` and the local clone. Finished films and games stay in your folders, and Vercel deployments are deleted in the Vercel dashboard.

FAQ

Are images or audio files needed?

No. Graphics are drawn in code on a canvas and sound is synthesised in Web Audio, so the project ships with no media assets.

What do I get?

One HTML player that opens in a browser plus MP4 exports. A game adds a Vercel deployment.

How do I check the install?

Build the example: `npm install --prefix examples/butterfly-life/tools`, then `node examples/butterfly-life/tools/check.cjs`. Success exits with code 0.

How much usage does it cost?

A lot. The README warns that one film takes a large share of a plan because of per-shot subagents and review waves.

How do the modes differ?

The drawn mode makes 1080x1920 vertical films at 24 fps. The retro mode runs pixel art at 60 fps. The game mode starts from the ROBOT RUN template.
