Manim Skill

A skill for making math animations in Manim: the agent plans scenes, writes code, renders video and refines on feedback

Skill

Medium risk

We rate an entry medium when the tool runs code, makes network calls or reads project files. Check what exactly it does before installing.

Why this level

  • The agent writes and runs Python code
  • It renders video locally and creates project files
All reasons and checks

Text for your agent

Install dependencies: brew install cairo pkg-config ffmpeg and uv tool install manim. Install the plugin: /plugin marketplace add Yusuke710/manim-skill, then /plugin install manim-skill/manim-skill.

Other ways from the author
/plugin marketplace add Yusuke710/manim-skill
/plugin install manim-skill/manim-skill

This is third-party code. Review the repository files before installing.

What it does

The skill gives the agent a workflow for making Manim Community Edition videos in the 3Blue1Brown style. The agent goes through four stages: it plans the video structure, writes Python code, runs the render until all scenes build, and refines on feedback. For each project it creates a separate folder with the plan, the script and the output. It ships a viewer for finished scenes to make feedback easy.

Who it is for. For teachers, creators and developers who want math animations without hand-wiring Manim code.

Good fit when

  • You need to animate a formula, a proof or how an algorithm works
  • You are making an educational video in the 3Blue1Brown style
  • You want the agent to plan scenes, render and refine on feedback

Not a fit when

  • You are not ready to install Manim and system dependencies
  • You want animation in an editor rather than through code
  • The task is not about math or data visualization

Example request

Make an animation that visually shows the Pythagorean theorem using squares on the sides

Limitations

Before use you need to install system dependencies (cairo, pkg-config, ffmpeg) and Manim Community Edition. The agent writes and runs Python code and renders video locally, which takes time and resources. The skill is aimed first at Claude Code. MIT licensed.

How to disable. Uninstall the manim-skill plugin through the plugin manager and, if you like, remove Manim and the system dependencies.

Security check

  • The agent writes and runs Python code
  • It renders video locally and creates project files

README in short

The README describes a Claude Code skill that makes Manim videos through plan, code, render and refine. The agent plans the video structure, writes Python code and renders scenes, then opens a viewer so the author can give feedback. It lists the system dependencies and the Manim Community Edition install, while the skill itself installs via the Claude Code marketplace. There is a demo and a link to the scene viewer. MIT licensed.

SKILL.md

---
name: manim-skill
description: Create mathematical animations with Manim Community Edition(manimce). Generates distinctive, production-grade animations that avoid generic "AI slop" aesthetics. Use when user wants to animate concepts, equations, illustrate proofs, visualize algorithms, create math explainers, or produce 3Blue1Brown-style videos.
---

## Project Structure

Create a dedicated folder for each animation project in the user's current working directory. Use this flat structure:

<project-name>/
  plan.md # Planning document (Phase 1)
  script.py # Manim code (Phase 2)
  concat.txt # ffmpeg scene list (Phase 3)
  final.mp4 # Stitched output (Phase 3)
  media/ # Auto-generated by manim

## Workflow Overview

Plan -> Code -> Render -> Iterate

FAQ

What do I need to install first?

The system dependencies cairo, pkg-config and ffmpeg, plus Manim Community Edition, for example via uv tool install manim.

How do I give feedback on the video?

The agent opens a scene viewer in the browser; you watch the result and paste edits into chat, and it refines the video.
