Why this level
- The CLI runs selected commands concurrently with user permissions; they can change files, open ports and contact services.

What it does
A development server and an asset builder often run together. With concurrently, users define each command separately and identify its output by a label. An agent can assemble the project launch so both processes remain visible in one terminal window. The command can live in package.json or run directly. Options control prefixes and coordinated termination, including stopping the remaining tasks when one exits.
Who it is for. Local development teams launching several project services with one agent-prepared command.
Good fit when
- A project needs a server and asset builder running together.
- Several commands need identifiable output in one window.
- Remaining tasks should stop when one exits.
- A development launch should work across operating systems.
Not a fit when
- Commands must run strictly in sequence and pass results between steps.
- You need a persistent production service manager for the machine.
- The commands have not been reviewed by the user.
Example request
Prepare a combined launch for two reviewed development commands with distinct labels and coordinated termination.Limitations
Quote each complete command or its arguments may be treated as separate jobs. Windows requires double quotes, which must be escaped inside package.json. Coordinated termination depends on the chosen mode; parallel execution alone does not define how other tasks should stop. Child commands run with normal user permissions, and their completed file or service changes remain after the combined run is stopped.
How to disable. Stop the combined run and inspect remaining child processes. Remove its project script if no longer needed.
FAQ
Is it limited to Node.js commands?
No. It is written in Node.js but runs ordinary shell commands.
Why did an argument become a separate process?
Quote each complete command: `concurrently "command1 arg" "command2 arg"`. Escape the inner double quotes inside a `package.json` string.
What does `--kill-others` do?
It stops the other commands when one exits.
Is there a shorter command name?
Yes, `conc`.
Where are the options listed?
Run `concurrently --help`.
