Broad access
Why this level
- The agent edits files and runs shell commands, tests and a linter in your project
- Provider keys are stored locally and model requests go to external APIs
- The installer is downloaded and run as a script from the network
Install
In your terminal, with SkillFoxx CLI
npx skillfoxx add cli/empryoDetects the agents on your machine, shows the access level and pins the version.

What it does
Empryo is a coding agent that runs three ways: a desktop app, a terminal and a headless mode for CI. The installer is one command from empryo.com, a provider key is set with empryo --set-key, and then typing empryo in a project folder is enough. Before an edit the agent reads a map of the repository, so it knows which files a change will touch. It replaces code by symbol name: a function or class is swapped exactly, through syntax-tree parsing and LSP. After an edit it runs typecheck, lint and tests and fixes what they report in the same turn. Decisions and bugs it has found are remembered separately for each project. You can use any model: cloud provider keys, gateways, subscriptions such as Codex and GitHub Copilot, or local Ollama and LM Studio. The repository docs cover plan mode, checkpoints, hooks, skills, MCP servers over stdio, HTTP and SSE, and multiple terminals in one session.
Who it is for. For developers who want a standalone coding agent with a choice of model that works in a desktop app, a terminal and CI.
Good fit when
- You need a rename-style refactor across a repository where the agent must know what imports the changed file
- You want the same agent and shared project memory in an app, a terminal and CI
- You want the model paid through an existing Codex or GitHub Copilot subscription
- Every edit should end with typecheck, lint and tests without a separate request
- You want to attach your own MCP servers and run the agent headless in a build pipeline
Not a fit when
- You need fully open source for the current version: the public repository holds only the SoulForge v2 core
- You plan to sell Empryo, host it as a service or bundle it in your product: that needs a separate commercial license
- Installation through a trusted package manager is mandatory: Empryo is not distributed via Homebrew, WinGet, npm or GitHub Releases
- You want a plain agent for a one-off edit where a repository map and project memory are overhead
Example request
Rename the parseConfig function across the repository, run typecheck and tests and show the final diffLimitations
- The repository holds the public SoulForge v2 core and engine. The current Empryo v3 app and newer features are developed privately, and part of the in-repo docs still refer to the soulforge command.
- Empryo v3 is free for personal and internal business use, including CI. Selling, hosting or bundling Empryo itself needs the owner's written permission.
- The repository license is custom and has no SPDX identifier.
- You need a provider key, a subscription or a local model.
- The installer is a script piped from the network through curl and bash, so read it before running.
How to disable. Close the app or the terminal session. The repository documents no uninstall command: delete the installed files from where the installer put them and the project configuration the agent created for memory and settings.
FAQ
How do I install Empryo?
On macOS and Linux run curl -fsSL https://empryo.com/install.sh | bash, on Windows irm https://empryo.com/install.ps1 | iex. The installer downloads a build from dl.empryo.com and verifies its checksum. The desktop app comes from empryo.com/download.
Is Empryo on npm or Homebrew?
No. The documentation says Empryo is not distributed through Homebrew, WinGet, npm or GitHub Releases, and that installers and downloads exist only on empryo.com.
Which models does Empryo support?
Cloud providers such as Anthropic, OpenAI, Google, xAI, Groq, DeepSeek and Mistral, gateways such as OpenRouter, Codex and GitHub Copilot subscriptions, and local Ollama and LM Studio. The list comes from the repository docs; check the project site for the current one.
Is Empryo free?
For personal and internal business use, yes, including paid client work and CI. Selling, hosting or bundling Empryo itself needs a written license from the owner.
How does Empryo edit code?
The agent replaces a function or class whole by symbol name, relying on syntax-tree parsing and LSP. Before that it builds a repository map, and after the edit it runs typecheck, lint and tests.

README in short
The project page opens with a slogan and links to download, docs, benchmarks and Discord. Then come install commands, four points on what the agent does, a chart comparing it with a few other agents on time and cost, and a section on running it in the app, in a terminal and headless. A separate block explains that the repository holds the public SoulForge v2 core while the current Empryo v3 is closed. It ends with usage terms, a contact for a commercial license and sponsors.
