What it does
LazySkills is a Go terminal UI that gathers every skill into one list: project and global, universal and tied to a single agent. Switch between agents and you see which skills each of them can use: Claude Code, OpenCode, Codex, Cursor, Gemini CLI and others. The panel spots broken installs. It notices a missing SKILL.md, invalid frontmatter and broken symlinks. It also sees lock-file entries with no folder on disk and ghost skills under agents. Before an action it shows the metadata, the rendered skill content and the exact command it is about to run. You can open, reinstall or remove a skill, and updates and removals also work in bulk. New skills are found in the skills.sh catalog, in local checkouts and in GitHub sources, and you pick the install scope, project or global, up front. Scripts and agents get commands without the UI: `lazyskills doctor`, `lazyskills restore` and `lazyskills find --json`.
Who it is for. For developers who keep skills for several agents and want to see what is installed where.
Good fit when
- A skill is installed but Claude Code or Cursor never calls it, and you need to check whether that particular agent can see it
- Skills have piled up in the project and globally, and you want one list grouped by source
- After cloning a project or switching machines, the lock file still lists skills that are missing on disk
- You want to update or remove several skills at once and see in advance which commands will run
- An agent needs to search the skills catalog without a UI: `lazyskills find --json "browser automation"`
Not a fit when
- You need to judge the quality or safety of a skill's text: the panel checks the install structure and does not audit what the skill says
- You need a fully automatic flow with no human: the interactive panel waits for confirmation on every change
- You work only with MCP servers or plugins: LazySkills manages skills
- There is no terminal and you need a graphical interface: this is a TUI
Example request
Run `lazyskills doctor --json` in this project and tell me which skills Claude Code cannot see and whyLimitations
The recommended install script is downloaded from the author's site and run right away, so read it first. `lazyskills update` only checks for a newer version and prints the upgrade command; it changes nothing itself. Searching skills.sh and GitHub sources needs network access. Before each install, `lazyskills restore` rechecks the lock entry and the command, yet it does not fully rule out a race with concurrent installs.
How to disable. Delete the installed lazyskills binary; for a Homebrew install, use the standard cask removal. Skills you installed through the panel stay in place.
FAQ
How do I install LazySkills on macOS, Linux or Windows?
macOS and Linux have an install script and a Homebrew cask, Windows has a PowerShell script, and Go developers can use go install. The ready commands are in the install section on this page. After installing, run `lazyskills` in the project folder to open the panel.
Does lazyskills doctor change any files?
No, it is a read-only report. Scan errors come before warnings, and each entry names the affected skill or workspace, the path and a safe next step. Scripts get the `--json` flag, and `--cwd` checks another project.
How do I restore skills that are in the lock file but missing from disk?
Run `lazyskills restore` with `--project`, `--global` or `--all`: it previews the plan and installs what is missing. Without a scope flag it checks both. You can pass the names of specific skills, and `--yes` accepts the plan without prompts. If a skill disappears or its entry changes mid-run, the command aborts and reports what was already restored.
How do I find and install a new skill through LazySkills?
Press n in the panel to open a skills.sh search. The chosen skill is shown together with its install command, and you confirm the scope, project or global, before it runs.
How do I find out that a new version of LazySkills is out?
When a newer version exists, the panel footer shows an update mark, and a capital U opens a window with the release notes and the command for your install route. From the terminal, `lazyskills update` does the same: the `--check` flag only checks and the `--print-command` flag prints the upgrade command. You run the upgrade yourself.
