What it does
MCPM is an MCP server manager on the command line. It searches servers in a registry, adds and configures them for different clients, remembers the server's source (git, npm or HTTP) and updates. Installation: `brew install mcpm`, `pipx install mcpm` (recommended for Python tools), `pip install mcpm` or the script `curl -sSL https://mcpm.sh/install | bash`. For development there is an editable install through `uv pip install -e .`. Version 2.15.0 from 22.05.2026, MIT license, Python.
Who it is for. For people who connect many MCP servers to different clients and want to manage them from one place instead of editing configuration files by hand.
Good fit when
- You need to find an MCP server in a registry and connect it with one command
- You need to update servers by their source
- You need to keep the configuration of several clients in order
Not a fit when
- You are not ready for the manager to change client configurations
- You need only one or two servers: manual setup is simpler
Example request
Find an MCP server for working with PostgreSQL in the registry, add it for Claude Code and show what changed in the configurationLimitations
The manager changes the configuration of your MCP clients and installs other people's servers, so access is extended: check what it adds. Installing by the script from mcpm.sh executes someone else's code: read it before running, or install through pipx or Homebrew. The latest release is v2.15.0 from 22.05.2026.
How to disable. Remove the manager (brew uninstall mcpm or pipx uninstall mcpm) and check which servers it left in the client configurations.
