What it does
Rockpack Starter is a React project generator that creates files and configuration for a chosen project type. The wizard supports client-rendered and server-rendered applications, standalone components and libraries. An agent then develops within that structure. The build uses Webpack and TypeScript. Webpack configuration can be extended, and a separate module supplies code-style checks. The project describes conventions for Claude Code in `CLAUDE.md`; teams adapt those initial rules to their application.
Who it is for. Frontend developers starting a Webpack-based React project with a shared structure and code checks.
Good fit when
- A team is starting a React application and wants TypeScript and a build before feature work.
- Application pages must render on the server before becoming interactive in the browser.
- A standalone component is being prepared for npm publication with type declarations.
- A new library needs several build formats from one template.
Not a fit when
- An existing project must retain its structure and configuration unchanged.
- The team chose another bundler and does not plan to use Webpack.
- You need a finished product design with complete pages and content.
Example request
Create a separate Rockpack React SSR project and show its dependencies and checks before building pages.Limitations
Rockpack requires Node.js 24.15 or later in both development and CI. Starter creates a new project; moving an existing application requires a review of its dependencies and configuration. Rockpack includes Jest tooling, but tester is listed as an optional module, so inspect the dependencies of your selected template. Generated rules and `CLAUDE.md` are starting conventions for the team to adapt before development.
How to disable. Uninstall the global Starter package through npm when no longer needed. Previously generated applications remain in their directories.
FAQ
How do I create a project after installation?
Run `rockpack <project-name>`, substituting a new directory name. Choose the project type in the wizard, then open the generated directory to continue working.
Is there a library template?
Yes. Starter supports UMD, ESM and CommonJS library builds. Select that project type.
Can I customize Webpack?
Yes. Extend the project’s build configuration. Rockpack stays in the toolchain, so a single configuration change does not require replacing the whole toolkit.
Must I adopt the whole toolkit?
No. Build, code-style and testing modules can be used independently. Select only the needed parts for an existing project.
What does the SSR template include?
A Node.js server and React hydration, which makes the server-rendered page interactive. After generation, start the server and open the page in a browser.

README in short
Starter supports CSS modules and SVG imports as React components. Separate compiler and code-style packages allow selective adoption.
