How we reviewExtended accessThe tool runs code or makes network calls and only reads external data.
- File operations run with user permissions and can change or delete working material.
This is third-party code. Review the repository files before installing.
What it does
superfile provides a keyboard-driven file interface inside a terminal. Start it with `spf` to navigate directories and perform file operations. Themes, keybindings and plugins can be configured independently. It is a standalone tool for a person working at the command line, useful alongside an editor or coding agent for manual project inspection. The main documentation does not expose an MCP connection; an interactive terminal interface should not be assumed to provide an automation API.
Who it is for. Codebase maintainers inspecting files after agent edits and preferring keyboard navigation in the terminal.
Good fit when
- Navigate project directories from a terminal.
- Manually inspect files after an agent has changed them.
- Standardize keyboard shortcuts for file operations.
- Match a file interface to a terminal theme.
Not a fit when
- A script requires machine-readable JSON instead of an interactive screen.
- You need a ready-made file-management MCP server.
- The workflow depends on complete Windows feature support.
Example request
Prepare a manual project-folder inspection guide for superfile, checking documented shortcuts first.Limitations
Windows support is incomplete, so verify required operations before adopting the workflow there. Default shortcuts differ from Vim and Neovim habits; the documentation provides an alternative key configuration. The installer is fetched from the project website and should be inspected before execution. On macOS and Linux, the uninstall script removes superfile configuration and data directories as well as its binary, so back up custom themes and bindings first.
How to disable. Close the interface. Back up settings before using the macOS or Linux uninstaller, which removes them too.
