How we reviewExtended accessThe tool runs code or makes network calls and only reads external data.

What it does
trdsql treats data files as SQL tables. An agent can filter, aggregate and join inputs without a separate manual import step. SQLite is the default query engine. Alternative drivers provide PostgreSQL or MySQL syntax. Results can use CSV, JSON, Markdown and other formats, with input options for headers, delimiters and null values.
Who it is for. Tabular-data analysts who prefer SQL for joining and transforming exported files.
Good fit when
- Two CSVs need a join and selected columns.
- An agent summarizes a JSON export with SQL aggregation.
- A table needs Markdown output for a report.
- Queries need functions from a selected PostgreSQL or MySQL driver.
Not a fit when
- The data structure is outside supported tabular inputs.
- The selected external database cannot be accessed appropriately.
- You expect identical SQL syntax across all drivers.
Example request
Join two test CSVs with trdsql, define null handling explicitly and save output as a new JSON file.Limitations
The first build sequence assumes an older GOPATH layout despite requiring Go 1.25 or later; choose a documented binary release matching your platform. Null representation in CSV and other text inputs needs explicit configuration or empty strings may mean something different. SQL depends on the engine, so PostgreSQL functions do not automatically transfer to SQLite. External databases and output files use supplied rights and paths; choose a test connection and separate output file.
How to disable. End the query and remove unused external database access. Saved results remain as files; keep source exports separately.
FAQ
Is an external database required?
No. SQLite is the default; external engines are optional.
How do I select JSON output?
Use `-ojson`.
Can the query come from a file?
Yes. Use `-q`.
How do I treat empty fields as null?
Set `-inull` for the null representation in your input.
Can it suggest SQL from a file?
Yes. File-analysis options inspect structure and suggest a query.

README in short
Compressed input and several output formats are supported. Files can be joined with tables in a connected database.
