What it does
The server connects Todoist to Claude so you can run a task list with ordinary phrases. The agent reaches your account through the Todoist API with a personal token and works with tasks through five tools. The todoist_create_task tool creates a task: it needs a title, and optionally a description, a due date and a priority from 1 to 4. The todoist_get_tasks tool lists tasks filtered by due date, priority or project, with dates expressed in words such as this week and an optional result limit. The remaining tools, todoist_update_task, todoist_complete_task and todoist_delete_task, find a task by part of its name and then change its fields, mark it done or delete it, confirming the result in the reply. Searching by a partial name removes the need for identifiers: it is enough to say mark the documentation task as complete. The server returns errors as readable text.
Who it is for. For Todoist users who work in Claude Desktop and want to add, find and close tasks without opening the app.
Good fit when
- You need to jot down a task on the go with a phrase like add a task to review the PR tomorrow at 2pm
- You want a list of urgent items for the week filtered by priority and due date
- A task has to move to another day or get a description without recalling its exact name
- Completed items should be ticked off in a batch during a conversation about work
- Todoist already holds your to-dos and Claude Desktop is open beside it
Not a fit when
- You need Todoist projects, labels, comments and attachments: the server has only five task tools
- The agent must not be trusted with deletion: the todoist_delete_task tool erases a task found by a name search
- Todoist is not your tracker: Linear, Yandex Tracker and other systems need different servers

Environment variables
TODOIST_API_TOKENrequired, secret- A personal Todoist API token from the account settings.
Limitations
A personal Todoist token is required: you take it from the settings, in the integrations section, under the Developer heading. The token lives in the TODOIST_API_TOKEN variable and opens the whole account. The project has not been updated recently: the last commit is from April 2025. The package version is 0.1.0. A task is found by part of its name, so with several similar names an action may hit the wrong record, and an ambiguous request is better clarified. The documentation shows a setup example for Claude Desktop only.
How to disable. Remove the todoist entry from claude_desktop_config.json and restart Claude Desktop. If you installed globally, run npm uninstall -g @abhiz123/todoist-mcp-server. Revoke or regenerate the token in Todoist settings: while it works, it can be used outside the agent.
FAQ
How do I connect Todoist to Claude Desktop through MCP?
Add a todoist server to claude_desktop_config.json with the command npx, the arguments -y @abhiz123/todoist-mcp-server and a TODOIST_API_TOKEN variable, then restart Claude Desktop. The command npx -y @smithery/cli install @abhiz123/todoist-mcp-server --client claude installs the server automatically.
Where do I get the API token for Todoist MCP Server?
Log in to Todoist, open the settings, go to the integrations section and find the token under the Developer heading. Put it into the TODOIST_API_TOKEN variable in the server configuration.
How do I find high priority Todoist tasks for this week through Claude?
Ask Claude to show high priority tasks due this week. The todoist_get_tasks tool accepts a filter by due date, priority and project, and dates can be given in words. A limit parameter caps the number of results.
How does Todoist MCP find a task to change or delete?
By part of its name. If you say update the meeting task, due Monday, the server finds a matching record and changes it. With several similar names, first clarify which task you mean.
Which task fields can Todoist MCP Server change?
Title, description, due date and a priority from 1 to 4. The server has no tools for projects, labels and comments.
