Access and checks
How we reviewExtended accessThe tool runs code or makes network calls and only reads external data.
- Reads local agent logs and quotas and, when enabled, installs hooks in their settings.
- The panel handles agents' permission requests.
This is third-party code. Review the repository files before installing.
What it does
Agent HUD watches local agents and shows their state at a screen edge: a glow around the notch or a floating panel. Color reflects the most used quota: green under 70 percent, yellow from 70, red from 90. Hover opens quotas, balances, the last day of tokens and sessions, with those waiting for you first. Permission requests and agent questions are answered right on the panel. The built-in MCP server connects to Claude Code, Codex and Cursor with a button in the app settings. Through it agents read the HUD snapshot and session statistics and, on your request, change how the panel looks. Edits appear as a preview and are kept only after you press Save. In the release, Claude Code, Codex, Antigravity and DeepSeek Harness agents can also pass messages to each other. iPhone and Apple Watch versions exist.
Who it is for. People who keep several agents running on a Mac and want quotas, token use and agent questions in view without switching windows.
Good fit when
- Claude Code and Codex quotas run out unexpectedly and an early signal helps.
- An agent stopped at a permission request while you worked in another window.
- You need the day's token and session totals by agent and model.
- You want to hand the panel's layout to an agent with a plain sentence.
Not a fit when
- You work on Windows or Linux: support there is still a preview.
- Hooks must not be added to agent settings.
- You want only an MCP with no desktop app: the server works through the running app.

Limitations
The MCP server attaches to the running app and returns an error without it. Agent access to the panel is off by default: turn on "Let agents arrange the HUD" in the Agent plugins section of Settings. Windows and Linux remain in preview, and Windows named pipes for MCP are not yet available. The app can write hooks into agent settings to receive requests and replies while hooks are on. Agent messaging and the iPhone and Apple Watch versions are part of the release.
How to disable. Press Remove for the client in the Agent plugins section of Settings to take out the MCP and skill, then uninstall the app. Turning hooks off removes them from agent settings.
FAQ
How do I install Agent HUD?
On a Mac run `brew install --cask jazzenchen/tap/agent-hud`. `npx @agenthud/install` works on Mac, Windows and Linux, but Windows and Linux are still a preview.
How do I connect the MCP to Claude Code, Codex or Cursor?
Turn on "Let agents arrange the HUD" in the Agent plugins section of Settings and press Add next to the client. The app runs `claude mcp add`, `codex mcp add` or writes `mcpServers` into `~/.cursor/mcp.json`.
Which tools does the agent see?
`hud_snapshot`, `hud_refresh`, `hud_session`, `hud_statistics`, `hud_capabilities` and `hud_set_preference`. Reading installs no hooks and never answers permission requests for you.
What about permission requests?
You decide: allow, deny or always allow. A request left unanswered for 10 minutes goes back to the agent.
Which systems does Agent HUD run on?
On macOS 14 and newer. Windows and Linux are still a preview, and the iPhone and Apple Watch app is in the App Store.

README in short
The README is organized around three surfaces: the Mac screen, iPhone and Apple Watch. It continues with the built-in MCP, token tracking, a table of supported agents, a data section and building from source.
