Broad access
Why this level
- The agent creates payments, invoices and employee records in the customer's accounting and HR systems
- The API key opens data of every connected consumer unless the identity is locked
Install
- Works in
Manual install
claude mcp add --transport http apideck https://mcp.apideck.dev/mcp --header "Authorization: Bearer $APIDECK_API_KEY" --header "x-apideck-consumer-id: $APIDECK_CONSUMER_ID" --header "x-apideck-app-id: $APIDECK_APP_ID"The hosted variant from the README; set the variables first.

What it does
Apideck is a unified API layer over hundreds of business systems. The MCP server connects an agent to it: accounting, HRIS, CRM, file storage, recruiting, issue trackers, e-commerce and webhooks. In total there are over 380 tools across ten unified APIs, for invoices, employees, contacts and files among others. The server has three modes. In `dynamic` mode, the default, the agent sees four meta-tools and finds the right ones itself: `list_tools`, `describe_tool_input`, `execute_tool`. That spends about 85% fewer tokens on loading schemas. `static` mode exposes all tools at once, and `code` keeps two, `apideck_search` and `apideck_run`, where the agent calls methods in a JavaScript sandbox. Four workflow tools also exist. They check month-end close, pay a vendor bill, receive a customer payment and turn a hired candidate into an employee. Data is scoped by a consumer ID, which can be locked so the agent cannot switch between customers.
Who it is for. Teams that build integrations with customers' accounting, HR and CRM systems and want to hand an agent that work through one server.
Good fit when
- Month-end close needs aged creditors, debtors, balance sheet and P&L in one call
- A vendor bill must be paid in the customer's accounting system with the payment linked to it
- A hired candidate has to become an employee in the HR system
- The agent needs one integration instead of a separate connector for every CRM
- The agent's context is limited, so hundreds of tool schemas will not fit
Not a fit when
- You need one system that has its own MCP server: connecting directly is simpler
- You have no Apideck account and key: the server does not start without them
- Writes to accounting systems must be impossible: the set includes create and delete tools, and a `--scope read` filter can limit them
- You need safe write retries: the README states the server adds no idempotency
Example request
Find unpaid vendor bills for October in the connected accounting system and list the amounts for each.MCP
- Transport
- stdio, http
- Authentication
- API key
Environment variables
APIDECK_API_KEYrequired, secret- Apideck API key
APIDECK_APP_IDrequired- Apideck application ID
APIDECK_CONSUMER_ID- End-customer ID, can be set per call
Limitations
You need an API key, an application ID and, for most requests, an Apideck consumer ID. The key is never accepted in a URL, only in headers.
The `static` mode loads 35–55 thousand tokens of schemas, so choose `dynamic` for a wide set.
The server does not make write retries safe: a repeated call can create a duplicate.
Reachability of the service from Russia was not checked for this card.
How to disable. Run claude mcp remove apideck and delete the key from your environment variables. Data in the connected systems stays.
FAQ
How do I connect Apideck to Claude Code?
Export APIDECK_API_KEY, APIDECK_CONSUMER_ID and APIDECK_APP_ID and run claude mcp add --transport http apideck https://mcp.apideck.dev/mcp with the headers Authorization, x-apideck-consumer-id and x-apideck-app-id. Or run the local variant with npx -y @apideck/mcp start.
Which mode should I choose?
`dynamic` fits general tasks: four meta-tools and about 1,300 tokens at start. `static` suits an agent with one narrow job, and `code` suits calling methods from a script.
Can I skip the consumer ID?
Yes, it is optional at connect time. The agent passes consumer_id on each call, and app-level requests such as webhook logs work without it.
How do I stop the agent from writing?
Start the server with the `--scope read` filter, which the README shows together with `dynamic` mode.
Is there an install for Claude Desktop?
Yes. Each release carries an mcp-server.mcpb bundle: drop it on Claude Desktop and the app prompts for the key, consumer ID and app ID.

README in short
The README opens with quick connections for Cursor, VS Code, Claude Desktop, Claude Code and Windsurf. It then gives a table of ten unified APIs, four workflow tools, the hosted address with headers, three operating modes and authentication options, including Vault session tokens.
