What it does
Dashboard Icons is a collection of icons and logos for services, applications and tools, built for dashboards and app directories. Every icon comes as SVG, PNG and WEBP, and many have light and dark variants with `-light` and `-dark` suffixes. jsDelivr serves the files at `https://cdn.jsdelivr.net/gh/homarr-labs/dashboard-icons/svg/plex.svg`, with lowercase hyphenated names. The remote MCP server at `https://dashboardicons.com/api/mcp` saves the agent a manual search. It matches every service in a `docker-compose.yml` or dashboard config to an icon in one call, returns CDN links or the raw SVG to inline, and also searches the selfh.st, LobeHub and Simple Icons catalogs with their licenses. After sign-in it can submit a missing icon or an update.
Who it is for. For people building a home dashboard or service directory who want the agent to place the icons.
Good fit when
- You need to give icons to dozens of services from `docker-compose.yml` in a dashboard
- You need an SVG, PNG or WEBP icon with a CDN link for a page or README
- You need light and dark logo variants to match the interface theme
- You need to propose a missing icon to the collection without leaving the agent
Not a fit when
- You need UI icons for buttons and menus: the collection holds service logos only, so a general icon set fits better
- You need offline access: the server and the CDN work over the network only
- You need a company brand kit: the icons do not replace the owner's official materials

Limitations
The server runs on dashboardicons.com, so MCP is down when the site is. Submitting icons and updates requires sign-in on the site. The server has request limits, described in `web/docs/MCP.md` in the repository. In ChatGPT a custom MCP server is added through Plugins, and workspace plans may need an admin to allow it. For icons from selfh.st, LobeHub and Simple Icons the server shows licenses: check them before shipping the icons in a product.
How to disable. Remove the server with `claude mcp remove dashboard-icons` or delete the `dashboard-icons` entry from your client's MCP config. CDN links already placed in projects keep working.
FAQ
How do I connect Dashboard Icons to Claude Code?
Run `claude mcp add --transport http dashboard-icons https://dashboardicons.com/api/mcp`. No key is needed. Then ask the agent to add icons for the services in your `docker-compose.yml`.
How do I get an icon link without MCP?
Put the name into `https://cdn.jsdelivr.net/gh/homarr-labs/dashboard-icons/svg/<name>.svg`. For PNG and WEBP change the folder and extension; names are lowercase with hyphens.
How do I get light and dark icons?
Look for files with the `-light` suffix for dark backgrounds and `-dark` for light ones, for example `github-light.svg`.
Can I propose a missing icon?
Yes. Submit it at dashboardicons.com/submit, or ask the agent once you are signed in through MCP.
Does the MCP server need an API key?
No, the server is free and works without a key.

README in short
An open project from the Homarr team under Apache-2.0. The community adds the icons, and the agent layer arrived as an MCP server alongside the collection's website.
