Extended access
Why this level
- The token opens financial data of cloud accounts: spend, invoices and anomalies.
- Some tools write to the DoiT platform, and write permission depends on the token.
Install
- Works in
Manual install
npx -y @doitintl/doit-mcp-server@latestLocal stdio server. Needs Node.js 20 or newer and a token in `DOIT_API_KEY`.
Access and checks
How we reviewExtended accessThe tool runs code or makes network calls and only reads external data.
- The token opens financial data of cloud accounts: spend, invoices and anomalies.
- Some tools write to the DoiT platform, and write permission depends on the token.
This is third-party code. Review the repository files before installing.
What it does
The DoiT MCP server gives an agent access to the DoiT platform API, which tracks cloud spend. The agent lists top AWS services by cost, opens Cloud Analytics reports, shows GCP cost anomalies, invoices and Flexsave savings. There are two ways to connect. The remote endpoint `https://mcp.doit.com/mcp` uses Streamable HTTP and asks for DoiT sign-in in the browser. The local server runs through npx with a token in `DOIT_API_KEY`. Tool permissions match the token permissions in the DoiT API.
Who it is for. FinOps specialists and DoiT customer engineers who investigate cloud costs by asking an agent, with no console exports.
Good fit when
- The monthly bill grew and a list of the most expensive AWS services with their shares is needed.
- A cost anomaly alert arrived overnight and the details are gathered in one request the next morning.
- A weekly summary is prepared from a saved Cloud Analytics report.
- Accounting gets a list of invoices with amounts and payment statuses.
Not a fit when
- The DoiT account has no API access: the plan has to include the API.
- Spend sits directly with a cloud provider and is not onboarded to DoiT, so there is no data.
- An agent without confirmations gets a token with write access: reading is enough for cost analysis.

Environment variables
DOIT_API_KEYsecret- Personal DoiT API token. Required for the local server and for headless clients, the remote endpoint with browser sign-in does not need it.
CUSTOMER_CONTEXT- Customer context identifier.
Limitations
The DoiT plan must include API access, otherwise the tools return a refusal. A response is capped at 140,000 UTF-16 code units: an oversized read is replaced by an error that suggests how to narrow the query. The remote endpoint does not accept DoiT employee tokens, so employees use OAuth or the local server. The local server needs Node.js 20 or newer. Skills over MCP come separately and are not bundled by default.
How to disable. Remove the `doit_mcp_server` entry from `claude_desktop_config.json` or the client config and disable the connector in the client. Revoke the personal token on the Personal API tokens page of the DoiT console.
FAQ
How do I connect DoiT MCP Server to Claude Desktop?
Add a custom connector with the address `https://mcp.doit.com/mcp` and sign in to DoiT in the browser. Another way is a `doit_mcp_server` entry in `claude_desktop_config.json` with the command `npx`, the arguments `-y` and `@doitintl/doit-mcp-server@latest` and a token in `DOIT_API_KEY`.
Where do I get the DOIT_API_KEY token?
Open the Personal API tokens page in the DoiT console and create a personal token. The DoiT plan must include the API, otherwise the token does not work.
Does the server work without a browser?
Yes. Headless clients, for example HolmesGPT on a cluster or CI jobs, send a customer personal token to `https://mcp.doit.com/mcp` in an `Authorization: Bearer` header. Tool permissions equal the permissions of that token.
What should I ask the agent first?
Start with the top three AWS services by cost or with Flexsave savings. The server returns data from Cloud Analytics, and questions about anomalies and invoices are better asked next.
What data does the agent see?
As much as the token allows in the DoiT API: Cloud Analytics reports, anomalies, invoices and Flexsave savings. To narrow access, issue a token with minimal permissions.

Two sign-in paths are described: OAuth on the remote endpoint and a token for the local server. It continues with Claude Desktop and HolmesGPT examples, MCP protocol versions, source installation and four groups of sample queries.
