IFClite MCP
An MCP server for IFC: an agent counts building elements, validates a model against IDS, finds clashes and edits properties

Broad access
Why this level
- The edit tools change properties, attributes and geometry, create and delete elements and save the result to files on disk
- The agent reads the whole model: georeferencing, cost data, materials and the properties of every element
- In HTTP mode the server accepts requests over the network, and its token is set through a separate flag
Install
- Works in
In your terminal, with SkillFoxx CLI
npx skillfoxx add mcp/ifclite-mcpDetects the agents on your machine, shows the access level and pins the version.

What it does
IFClite MCP opens an IFC building model to an AI agent. The server starts with `npx @ifc-lite/mcp ./model.ifc` as a stdio process or as a Streamable HTTP server. It reads IFC2X3, IFC4, IFC4X3 and IFC5 (IFCX). Several files can be opened together with the `--federate` flag, for example architecture, structure and MEP models. The tools cover model queries: entities, spatial hierarchy, relationships, materials, classifications and georeferencing. They also include geometry (bounding boxes, volume, area, raycasts, a clash matrix), IDS validation and a model audit. The agent can edit properties and attributes, place windows and doors in walls and cut openings, create BCF topics and search the bSDD dictionary. Results export to IFC, CSV, JSON, GLB, OBJ, IFCX and a PDF report. A built-in WebGL viewer ships with the server: with your consent the agent opens it, colors elements by property, isolates them and moves the camera, and what you pick in the browser flows back to the agent.
Who it is for. For BIM coordinators, engineers and developers who want to query and check IFC models with Claude Desktop, Cursor, Windsurf or Goose.
Good fit when
- You need to count doors, walls or rooms in an IFC model and get a list by type, storey or property set value
- Before handing a model to a contractor you want to validate it against IDS requirements and get an error report
- Two model versions need comparing, or architecture, structure and MEP models need a clash check
- You want to set a property in bulk, such as a fire rating, and save the result to a new IFC with the option to undo the edit
- You want to show a client the model in a browser: the agent highlights elements by property and flies the camera to the right one
Not a fit when
- You need to work inside Revit or AutoCAD on a live drawing: the server opens IFC files and has no link to a running CAD
- Your source data sits in a native CAD format with no IFC export: export first
- You need a ready public-facing viewer site: the project has the `@ifc-lite/geometry` and `@ifc-lite/renderer` packages and a React template for that
Example request
Open model.ifc, count the external load-bearing walls per storey and validate the model against requirements.ids. Show the three most problematic elements in the reportMCP
- Transport
- stdio, http
- Authentication
- not required
Limitations
- The server installs as a separate `@ifc-lite/mcp` package. The repository itself is primarily a developer toolkit with a viewer, an SDK and a CLI, and most of its documentation is about those.
- The model_save and export_ifc tools write to files.
- Elements added by the placement tools reach the IFC export, but the geometry tools keep reading the parsed original model and do not see them.
- Node.js is required because the server starts through npx. HTTP mode for remote agents is enabled with `--transport http --port 8765`, and the token goes in the `--token` flag.
- The license is MPL-2.0: modified source files stay under MPL-2.0.
How to disable. Remove the ifc-lite entry from the MCP client config and the agent loses access to the model. The server does not change IFC files until a save or export is called. The global CLI is removed with `npm uninstall -g @ifc-lite/cli`.
FAQ
How do I connect an IFC model to Claude Desktop?
Add an ifc-lite server to claude_desktop_config.json with the npx command and the arguments `-y`, `@ifc-lite/mcp` and an absolute path to the IFC file. The same npx setup works for Cursor, Windsurf and Goose.
How do I run IFClite MCP read-only?
Add the `--read-only` flag: the tools that change the model are no longer available to the agent, which can then only search, count, validate and export.
Can I open several IFC files at once?
Yes. List the files and add `--federate`, for example `npx @ifc-lite/mcp ./arch.ifc ./struct.ifc ./mep.ifc --federate`. Queries then run over the combined model, and with several loaded models the edit tools need a model ID.
Which formats can the server export the model to?
IFC, CSV, JSON, GLB, OBJ and IFCX, plus a PDF report. For property edits there is batch apply and undo of the last operation.
How is IFClite MCP different from the ifc-lite CLI?
The `ifc-lite mcp model.ifc` command starts the same MCP server. The CLI is broader: it also prints summaries, runs queries, builds schedules, validates IDS, checks clashes, diffs, merges and converts schemas, and `ifc-lite view` opens a 3D viewer with a REST API.

README in short
The repository front page presents IFClite as an IFC toolkit: a Rust core, a WebGPU viewer, an SDK, a CLI and a set of separate npm packages. MCP gets a few lines and a row in the package table, while the details sit in the README of the `@ifc-lite/mcp` package: a quick start, a Claude Desktop config and a table of tools by category.
