Extended access
Why this level
- A Kibela access token lets the agent read the team's notes and comments within its owner's rights
- The tools create notes, folders and comments and replace note content, so agent mistakes land in the shared wiki

Access and checks
How we reviewExtended accessThe tool runs code or makes network calls and only reads external data.
- A Kibela access token lets the agent read the team's notes and comments within its owner's rights
- The tools create notes, folders and comments and replace note content, so agent mistakes land in the shared wiki
This is third-party code. Review the repository files before installing.
What it does
The server runs locally over STDIO and connects to MCP clients such as Claude Desktop or VS Code. It gives an agent 17 tools: six for notes (search, reading by Relay ID, address or folder, creating and replacing content), seven for folders (search, reading, creating, moving a note between folders, attaching a note to a folder), two for comments and replies, and two for groups and feeds. Note search takes filters for groups, folders, update dates, likers and the archive. Besides tools, the server has four ready prompts: review a note by address, search by topic, find related notes and reflect comments into the note text. Tool descriptions and prompt texts can be overridden with a JSON file mounted into the container.
Who it is for. Teams that keep an internal wiki in Kibela and want to search it and add notes from Claude Desktop or VS Code.
Good fit when
- An employee asks the assistant about a policy, and it searches Kibela notes and names the source
- Scattered notes need sorting into folders, and the agent moves them with `move_kibela_note_to_another_folder`
- The agent drafts a note: `create_kibela_note` with the draft flag places it in the right groups
- Comments piled up under a note, and the Reflect Comment prompt folds them into the text
- Before publishing, a note is reviewed with the Review prompt
Not a fit when
- You need a hosted server with nothing to install: only a local STDIO run is available
- Docker is not installed and you do not want to build the server from source
- You need Kibela functions outside the public GraphQL API: the server implements only the part suited to MCP

Environment variables
KIBELA_ORIGINrequired- The address of your Kibela team, for example https://your-subdomain.kibe.la.
KIBELA_ACCESS_TOKENrequired, secret- An access token issued on the Kibela access tokens settings page.
Limitations
- Only a local STDIO run is available.
- Running needs Docker and a Kibela access token. The no-Docker option requires launching `bin/cli.mjs` by absolute path.
- Only a part of the public GraphQL API is implemented.
- The server works with one Kibela team, whose address is set by the `KIBELA_ORIGIN` variable.
- There are no tools for deleting notes or folders, but `update_kibela_note_content` replaces a note's content.
- The last commit in the repository dates from March 2026.
How to disable. Remove the `kibela` block from `claude_desktop_config.json` or another client settings file and restart the client. Revoke the access token on the tokens page in Kibela.
FAQ
How do I connect Kibela to Claude Desktop?
Add a `kibela` block to `claude_desktop_config.json` with the command `docker`, the arguments `run -i -e KIBELA_ORIGIN -e KIBELA_ACCESS_TOKEN ghcr.io/kibela/kibela-mcp-server` and values for both variables in `env`. Then restart the client.
Where do I get the access token?
On the access tokens page in Kibela settings: `https://my.kibe.la/settings/access_tokens`. The token and your team address, like `https://your-subdomain.kibe.la`, go into the `KIBELA_ACCESS_TOKEN` and `KIBELA_ORIGIN` variables.
Can I run the server without Docker?
Yes. Put the absolute path to the repository's `bin/cli.mjs` script into the `command` field of the client configuration. The same two environment variables go into `env`.
Can I change tool and prompt descriptions?
Yes. Prepare a JSON file with `tools` and `prompts` keys, for example a new description for `search_kibela_note`, and mount it into the container as `/usr/src/app/kibela-mcp-server-config.json`. The keys are listed in `src/lib/server.ts`.
Can the agent overwrite a note by accident?
To replace content, `update_kibela_note_content` takes the new and the original text together, so the edit is anchored to the previous version. There is no tool for deleting notes.
