What it does
Kite MCP Server connects an AI agent to the Kite Connect trading API of the Indian broker Zerodha. The agent gets market data, views the portfolio and can work with orders. The server is written in Go and published by Zerodha itself. Tools are split by task. Sign-in goes through the login tool, which returns a Kite authorization link. Market data covers quotes, the last price, historical candles and instrument search. For the account there are the profile, margin, holdings, positions and mutual funds. Orders can be placed, modified and cancelled, and a separate group of tools handles GTT orders. Large result sets are paginated. There are two ways to connect. The hosted address https://mcp.kite.trade/mcp needs no installation or keys, but trading operations that could do damage are disabled there. You get the full set when you build the server yourself with your own Kite Connect keys.
Who it is for. For traders and developers with a Zerodha trading account who want to ask an agent about quotes and the portfolio, or build their own flows on Kite Connect.
Good fit when
- You want to ask an agent about portfolio state fast: holdings, positions and margin in one dialogue
- You need historical candles and the last price of an instrument to analyze an idea
- You need to check the execution history of a specific order
- You want your own read-only instance: trading tools can be left unregistered
- You build your own flows on Kite Connect and run the server locally in stdio, http or sse mode
Not a fit when
- You have no Zerodha trading account: the server works only with this broker's Kite Connect
- You need an autonomous trading bot: orders from an agent dialogue are better confirmed in person
- You need Russian markets or MOEX data: the server covers only what Kite provides

Environment variables
KITE_API_KEYrequired, secret- Kite Connect API key, needed only when self-hosting
KITE_API_SECRETrequired, secret- Kite Connect API secret, needed only when self-hosting
EXCLUDED_TOOLS- Comma-separated list of tools not to register
Limitations
- A Zerodha trading account is required: sign-in goes through a Kite authorization link.
- Self-hosting needs Go 1.21 or newer and Kite Connect credentials: KITE_API_KEY and KITE_API_SECRET. Tests require Go 1.23 with GOEXPERIMENT=synctest.
- The server implements most Kite Connect endpoints, though not all.
- Claude Desktop reaches the remote address through the mcp-remote bridge, which runs through npx, so Node.js must be installed.
- We have not checked whether mcp.kite.trade is reachable from Russia.
How to disable. Remove the kite entry from claude_desktop_config.json and restart the app. If you ran the server yourself, stop the process and delete the .env file with the keys. You can also revoke the app's access in the Kite settings.
FAQ
Do I need to install anything to connect Kite MCP Server?
No, if the hosted version is enough: add https://mcp.kite.trade/mcp to the client configuration, usually through mcp-remote. The hosted service exposes two addresses, /mcp and /sse. The author recommends /mcp for new connections.
Can I place orders from the hosted address?
No, the hosted server does not run trading operations. To work with orders, build the server yourself with your own Kite Connect keys.
How do I run the server myself?
Clone the repository, create a .env file with KITE_API_KEY, KITE_API_SECRET, APP_MODE, APP_PORT, APP_HOST and PUBLIC_BASE_URL, then build with `go build -o kite-mcp-server` and run the binary. A status page opens at http://localhost:8080/.
How do I make a read-only instance?
Set the EXCLUDED_TOOLS variable to a comma-separated list, for example `place_order,modify_order,cancel_order`. The listed tools will not be registered.
Which modes does the server support?
The APP_MODE variable accepts stdio, http, sse and hybrid. The hosted service runs in hybrid mode, which serves both /sse and /mcp.
