What it does
MCP Redmine exposes issues, projects, time entries and attachments from your instance. An agent can inspect records and prepare new issues or status changes. OpenAPI discovery lists paths and parameters before requests. Responses include API results and errors. Administrators can allow only GET requests and restrict directories for file uploads and downloads.
Who it is for. Redmine project coordinators collecting issue context and preparing updates with Claude.
Good fit when

Limitations
A Redmine URL and user API key with access to the required projects are needed. File operations are disabled without REDMINE_ALLOWED_DIRECTORIES; Docker uses paths inside the container. Read any optional request-instructions file before connecting because it guides the agent’s requests. Read-only mode permits GET only: issue creation, updates and uploads to Redmine are blocked. Choose the mode before assigning a task.
How to disable. Remove the MCP entry, stop the process and revoke its dedicated key. Review downloaded attachments and completed Redmine changes separately.
FAQ
How do I enable read-only mode?
Set `REDMINE_READ_ONLY=1`. The server keeps GET requests and refuses data changes and file uploads to Redmine.
Why does attachment download fail?
Check allowed directories and the complete destination filename. File operations need that allowlist.
How are API parameters discovered?
Call `redmine_paths_list`, then `redmine_paths_info` for the selected path. The OpenAPI description supplies parameters for preparing the request.
Can I use an internal certificate?
Yes. Configure `REDMINE_CA_BUNDLE` rather than disabling verification.
What is the response format?
The default response is YAML, with JSON available. Read the status code and any error message alongside the returned data.
