Extended access
Why this level
- The token exposes selected-location records and, if allowed, immediate item changes; MCP does not expose deletion or secret fields.
Install
- Works in
Manual install
docker compose up -dStartup after downloading compose.yaml and running `docker compose run --rm init` from Quick start. Then create the account and MCP connection.
Access and checks
How we reviewExtended accessThe tool runs code or makes network calls and only reads external data.

This is third-party code. Review the repository files before installing.
What it does
Kept MCP connects an agent to your inventory. The agent finds an item, shows its room, shelf or box and reads related information. With change permission, it can add items, move them or update their records. Data lives in your self-hosted Kept instance. Each connection receives selected locations and read-only or change access, within the permissions of the user’s role. The server also exposes lending and return records.
Who it is for. Equipment coordinators and household inventory keepers who want agent-based item search and movement records.
Good fit when
- You need to find a tool and see its storage location.
- A moved box needs an updated location record.
- Before servicing equipment, you review documents and upcoming dates.
- When planning a move, you ask the agent to list the contents of numbered boxes.
Not a fit when
- The agent needs to delete items or reveal secret fields.
- The location administrator has disabled external AI connections.
- You require a confirmation screen before every MCP change.

Limitations
Deploy Kept separately and enable AI connections for each location; otherwise the agent cannot see its items. Creating a token in the interface requires HTTPS, so a plain home-network HTTP address is insufficient for that step. Allowed MCP changes apply immediately; the connection log offers undo for seven days if the field has not changed again. OAuth connector checks against individual cloud apps are still pending, so test your client with minimal permissions first.
How to disable. Open Settings, Connections and revoke the token or connected app. Access stops immediately; previous changes remain, with eligible undo still available.
FAQ
Where do I get the address and token?
Create New token in Settings, Connections. Connect an app shows the server address and authorization header with copy buttons.
Why can the agent not see a room?
Check the token’s location access and the location’s Connect ChatGPT or Claude option, as well as your user role.
Can the agent upload a photo?
It provides a link to Kept’s capture form. The user opens it and attaches the file.
Can I recover a lost token?
No. A token is shown once; revoke it and create another.
Why does an answer show only part of a list?
Results are paged, with 20 items by default and up to 200 on request. Ask the agent to continue the selection.
