MAX messenger MCP server
mcp-server-max
An MCP server for the MAX messenger (formerly VK Teams): sending and reading messages, chat management, pinning and typing status
High risk
We rate an entry high when the tool writes to external systems, handles money, production databases or secrets, or runs arbitrary commands. The CLI installs it only with your consent.
Why this level
- Sends, edits and deletes messages on behalf of the bot
- Reads chat history and member lists
Install
Manual install
pip install mcp-server-maxThe README's install method; alternatively uvx mcp-server-max without installing.
This is third-party code. Review the repository files before installing.
What it does
The server wraps the Max Bot API into 14 tools: sending a message with Markdown, HTML and reply support, reading chat history with a time range and pagination, listing the bot's group chats, chat info and member lists, editing and deleting a message, pinning and unpinning a message and reading the current pin, leaving a chat, bot info, a typing indicator, and reading recent events via long polling. It installs as a regular Python package via pip or uvx and runs by its command name.
Who it is for. For people who want to control a MAX bot or read and send chat messages directly from an agent.
Good fit when
- You want to send notifications or replies from a MAX bot in an agent conversation
- You need to read chat history for a period to analyze or process it
- You need to pin important messages or manage chat membership
Not a fit when
- You need a resilient always-on channel with buffering on disconnects, a daemon like max-gateway fits better
- You need personal rather than group MAX chats, the README mainly covers group chats
Example request
Send a markdown message to chat 123456 about the meeting being rescheduled and pin itLimitations
It needs your own MAX bot and its token from @MasterBot. The README does not document Max Bot API rate limits or behavior during long idle periods without long polling.
How to disable. Remove the max server from your MCP client configuration and revoke the bot token via @MasterBot.

README in short
The English README, with a Russian version in a separate file, describes the server as an MCP for the MAX messenger, formerly VK Teams / ICQ. A table of 14 tools covers messages, chats, pinning and bot status. It shows installation via pip or uvx, getting a token via @MasterBot, the MAX_BOT_TOKEN and MCP_LOG_LEVEL environment variables, and configs for Claude Desktop, Claude Code and OpenClaw.
FAQ
How do I get a bot token?
Open MAX, find @MasterBot or the chat-bots section, create a new bot and copy the token.
Is Claude Code supported?
The README gives examples for Claude Desktop, Claude Code and OpenClaw with the same config structure.
