OpenPost MCP
MCP server of the OpenPost social scheduler: an agent reviews the calendar and accounts, drafts, schedules and publishes posts and triages comments
- 749 ★ on the repository

- AGPL-3.0
Broad access
Why this level
- With the mcp:full scope the agent publishes and schedules posts in connected social networks on your behalf, replies to comments and hides them
- It uploads media and reads the workspace's accounts, comments and analytics
- A developer token stays valid until you revoke it and opens workspaces without signing in again
Install
- Works in
In your terminal, with SkillFoxx CLI
npx skillfoxx add mcp/openpost-mcpDetects the agents on your machine, shows the access level and pins the version.

What it does
OpenPost MCP connects an agent to OpenPost, an open social publishing scheduler you can self-host or use in the hosted version. The agent sees workspaces, connected accounts, the media library, posts and their per-network variants, the schedule, provider readiness, comments and publication lifecycle events. With full access it creates and edits drafts and publications, queues them or sets a time, uploads media, replies to comments and moderates them. The server offers two endpoints. The main one, `https://app.openpo.st/mcp`, lists every operation as a separate tool, for example `list_workspaces`, `list_posts` or `create_post`. The compact one, `/mcp/code`, keeps a small set: `search_operations` finds operations and returns their schemas, `query_operation` runs read-only operations only, and `execute_operation` runs state-changing operations only. It suits clients with a strict tool list limit. For your own instance the address is replaced with your HTTPS address and the same /mcp path. If a client cannot reach your server, a local `openpost-mcp` bridge is installed: it reads the saved command-line profile and token and forwards messages to /mcp. The repository also has the `openpost` command line and an openpost-cli skill that teaches an agent to use it carefully: create a draft by default and publish, delete or disconnect an account only when asked.
Who it is for. For social media managers, marketers and owners of small brands who plan content in OpenPost and want agents in Claude Code, Cursor, Codex or ChatGPT to handle drafting, scheduling and reviewing posts.
Good fit when
- You need to review the calendar: what is queued, where the gaps are and what never reached the network
- One text has to become drafts for several accounts, left for your review
- A publication went out partially and the agent should show the variants and delivery events per network
- Comments have piled up and need grouping, replies to the simple ones and hiding of spam
- Scripts and routine jobs are easier to run from the terminal with the openpost command and the openpost-cli skill
Not a fit when
- You have no OpenPost instance: the hosted version is temporarily taking new users through a waitlist, and your own server has to be deployed with Docker Compose
- Your scheduler is a different one: the server works only with OpenPost, and Postiz and Postmypost have their own entries in the catalog
- You need to connect a new social account: that is done only in OpenPost's web interface, and neither MCP nor the command line accepts provider credentials
- Posts must go out only after manual approval: then grant `mcp:read` access and have the agent prepare drafts in the web interface
Example request
Show this week's schedule in the personal workspace, find the publications that did not go out and prepare drafts for them without schedulingMCP
- Transport
- http, stdio
- Authentication
- OAuth
Environment variables
OPENPOST_TOKENsecret- Developer token for the command line and the openpost-cli skill. MCP signs in through the browser.
OPENPOST_MCP_MODE- Self-hosted only: direct, search or both set the tool list at /mcp.
Limitations
The project ships under the AGPL-3.0-only license. Sign-up in the hosted version temporarily goes through a waitlist while the owners finish approvals with social platforms, and existing accounts work as before.
Access is set by scope. The `mcp:read` scope only allows viewing. The `mcp:full` scope permits creating, editing, scheduling, publishing, uploading and moderating, and an OAuth request with no scope gets it by default, so choose `mcp:read` explicitly for reviews and audits. A token can be bound to one workspace.
A queued or scheduled post is not yet published. Some networks require provider app approval or publicly reachable media URLs. Cloud clients cannot see localhost or private addresses, so the local bridge fits only when the process runs on a machine that can reach the server. Clients cache tool definitions, so a new session is needed after switching the address or mode.
How to disable. In Claude Code run `claude mcp remove openpost -s user`; in other clients delete the openpost entry from the MCP settings. Revoke the developer token in OpenPost under Settings, Personal, Developer. The command line is removed with `npm uninstall -g @getopenpost/cli`.
FAQ
How is the main MCP address different from the compact one?
The main `/mcp` lists every operation as a separate tool with its own schema. The compact `/mcp/code` gives a small set for finding and running operations and suits clients with a strict tool list limit. Permissions do not depend on the address you choose.
How do I connect OpenPost MCP to Claude Code?
With `claude mcp add --transport http --scope user openpost https://app.openpo.st/mcp`. Then open `/mcp` in Claude Code, select openpost and sign in in the browser. To check, ask it to list your workspaces.
How do I connect my own OpenPost server if it is closed off from the internet?
Install the command line and the bridge with the install script and the `--with-mcp` flag, sign in to the instance under a named profile and point the client at the `openpost-mcp` command with the `--profile` argument. The bridge takes the token from the profile and forwards messages to your /mcp.
What scopes can a token have?
Two: `mcp:read` to view workspaces, accounts, media, posts, schedules, comments and events, and `mcp:full`, which adds creating, editing, scheduling, publishing, uploading, replying and moderating.
Where can I see what the agent did through MCP?
In OpenPost under Settings, Personal, Developer access: recent calls are listed with client, tool, workspace, result and failure reason.
Which networks does OpenPost support?
Among them are LinkedIn, X, TikTok, YouTube, Bluesky, Mastodon, Pixelfed, PeerTube, Lemmy, PieFed, Discord, Pinterest and Telegram, with the full list kept in the project description. Telegram connects through a bot, and posting formats and analytics differ by network.

README in short
The project is presented as an open replacement for Buffer, Canva and CapCut: a scheduler with a calendar and queues, an image and carousel editor, a video editor, a media library, a meme maker, an inbox, analytics and workflows that turn GitHub releases and RSS feeds into drafts. A separate section gathers the API, SDK, command line, MCP and n8n. It continues with self-hosting in one container with SQLite and local storage, the list of supported networks and contribution rules. Detailed docs for connecting each assistant are in the apps/docs folder.
