What it does
PowerPoint MCP controls the real Microsoft PowerPoint application through COM automation (the pywin32 library). The agent reads presentations that are already open and edits them live, with no need to close the file. It requires Windows 10 or 11, an installed PowerPoint and Python 3.10 or newer. The server exposes 11 tools. For templates it offers list_templates, analyze_template and add_slide_with_layout: the agent finds a company template, inspects the placeholders and adds a slide with the chosen layout. populate_placeholder fills a placeholder with text using HTML tags (b, i, u, color tags, ul and ol lists), a LaTeX equation in a latex tag or a matplotlib plot. An equation lands in the slide as a native PowerPoint equation object. slide_snapshot returns a screenshot of the slide with bounding boxes plus extracted text, chart data, tables, hyperlinks, comments and speaker notes. The remaining tools add notes (add_speaker_notes), entrance animations (add_animation, including paragraph by paragraph), and duplicate, delete or move slides (manage_slide). powerpoint_evaluate runs arbitrary Python inside the PowerPoint context for batch operations.
Who it is for. For teachers, analysts and developers on Windows who build and edit PowerPoint decks through Claude Code, Cursor or Codex.
Good fit when
- You need a lecture with equations: the agent writes them in a latex tag and animates bullets paragraph by paragraph
- You have a corporate template and want the agent to build a quarterly report from a CSV with matplotlib charts
- You need to read someone else's deck together with speaker notes, tables and comments, then summarize it or quiz yourself on it
- You want to turn a repository description or research results into slides inside an already open PowerPoint
Not a fit when
- You work on macOS or Linux: the server relies on Windows COM and has no version for those systems
- PowerPoint is absent from the machine and you only need a pptx file: the server does not work without a running PowerPoint, and LibreOffice is not supported
- You need a mode that never executes code: powerpoint_evaluate runs arbitrary Python
- You need macOS support: the ppt-mcp server by ykuwai drives PowerPoint on both Windows and macOS

Limitations
It works only on Windows and only with Microsoft PowerPoint installed. There is no macOS or Linux build; the author welcomes a pull request with an AppleScript variant. It needs Python 3.10 or newer and runs through uvx.
Slide screenshots are saved to the ~/.powerpoint-mcp/ folder with timestamped names, so a long working session leaves many files there. The MIT license is stated in the project description, but the repository tree has no separate license file. The last commit in the repository dates from May 2026.
How to disable. In Claude Code remove the server with claude mcp remove powerpoint. In Cursor, Trae, OpenCode and other clients delete the powerpoint block from the MCP config file and restart the client.
FAQ
Is there a PowerPoint MCP for Claude Code?
Yes. PowerPoint MCP installs with one command: claude mcp add powerpoint -- uvx powerpoint-mcp. The server drives an installed PowerPoint on Windows through COM and fits Claude Code, Cursor, GitHub Copilot, Codex, OpenCode and other MCP clients.
Does PowerPoint MCP work on a Mac?
No. There is no macOS or Linux version because the server relies on Windows COM through pywin32. On a Mac, the ppt-mcp server by ykuwai works through Apple Events.
How do I add an equation to a slide with PowerPoint MCP?
populate_placeholder accepts text with a latex tag, for example E=mc^2 wrapped in latex tags. The server drives PowerPoint's built-in equation editor, so the result is a native PowerPoint equation object.
How do I fill a deck from a corporate template?
The agent calls list_templates to find templates in the personal and system folders, analyze_template to inspect layouts and add_slide_with_layout to create a slide that keeps the template styling.
How many tools does the PowerPoint MCP by Ayush Maniar have?
Eleven: presentation management, slide snapshot, slide switching, speaker notes, placeholder filling, slide management, template listing and analysis, adding a slide by layout, animation and Python execution. The author keeps the count small on purpose so the model does not struggle choosing a tool.

README in short
The author, a UCSD graduate student, built the server to stop spending three to four hours a week on slides. The description stresses three differences: templates as the main workflow, two-way access to an open PowerPoint, and a slide snapshot with text, charts and notes. It lists six working scenarios: topic research, dataset analysis, repository documentation, a corporate report, a lecture with equations and an interactive study session with a quiz. Setup steps are given for Claude Code, Cursor, Trae, Codex, CodeBuddy, OpenCode, VS Code and Google Antigravity.
