Broad access
Why this level
- The agent creates, edits, saves and closes presentations in a running PowerPoint and can load pictures from a URL
- The server sees the content of all open presentations, so pin the target file with ppt_activate_presentation
Install
- Works in
In your terminal, with SkillFoxx CLI
npx skillfoxx add mcp/ppt-mcpDetects the agents on your machine, shows the access level and pins the version.

What it does
ppt-mcp connects an agent to a running Microsoft PowerPoint. On Windows the server works through COM and on macOS through Apple Events, so changes show up on screen at once. Unlike libraries such as python-pptx that edit a file, the agent here drives the application itself. The tools fall into 26 categories: slides, shapes, text, tables, charts, animation, themes, SmartArt, media, freeform paths, sections, comments and export to PDF and images. The agent searches the Google Material Symbols set (over 2,500 icons) and inserts them as SVG in the deck's theme colors. For color there are 17 ready palettes and generation of a full set from one brand color. `ppt_activate_presentation` pins every call to one file so the agent does not touch a neighboring deck. When several conversations work on different files, each call can pass a `presentation` parameter. The typography check `ppt_check_typography` finds widow lines and silently shrunk text.
Who it is for. For people who build PowerPoint decks on Windows or Mac and want an agent in Claude Code, Cursor or Codex to handle the whole assembly, including tables, charts and icons.
Good fit when
- You need a deck from scratch out of a short brief: three product slides with icons, a color scheme and an accent, as in the repository examples
- A brand palette has to be applied to the whole deck: name one main color and the server generates the theme colors
- You need bulk edits: replace fonts, align shapes, move or duplicate a group of slides
- You want to check a finished deck for widow lines and text PowerPoint silently shrank
- You work on a Mac and need a PowerPoint MCP that drives the live application
Not a fit when
- PowerPoint is not installed: the server drives only a running Microsoft application
- On macOS you need SmartArt, tags or table style setup: those 12 tools refuse to run on a Mac
- You need to work with a pptx file on a server without a graphical environment: file libraries such as python-pptx fit that case
- You want a small tool set for templates on Windows: the PowerPoint MCP by Ayush Maniar offers 11 tools built around templates

Environment variables
PPT_AUTO_DISMISS_DIALOG- When set to true the server dismisses a PowerPoint modal dialog by sending Esc.
Limitations
It needs Windows 11 or macOS (Apple Silicon or Intel), an installed PowerPoint and the uv package manager. On macOS the first call raises a system prompt to allow PowerPoint automation, and the permission belongs to whichever application launched the server.
On a Mac 12 tools refuse to run; the list is in the MACOS_PORT.md file. Charts, freeform paths and grouping go through the clipboard, which is briefly occupied. Editing an existing chart or path recreates the shape, and animations on it are lost. The author advises saving often: on Mac there is a reported case where PowerPoint closed every document after a system prompt.
If a modal dialog is on screen on Windows, calls retry for up to 15 seconds before returning an error. The repository tree has no license file; MIT is stated in the description.
How to disable. In Claude Code run claude mcp remove powerpoint. In other clients delete the powerpoint block from the MCP config file (for Codex that is ~/.codex/config.toml) and restart the client.
FAQ
How do I connect the PowerPoint MCP to Claude Code?
Run claude mcp add powerpoint uvx ppt-mcp. For team sharing add the --scope project flag and the settings land in .mcp.json. You need an installed PowerPoint and uv.
Is there a PowerPoint MCP for macOS?
Yes, ppt-mcp works on both Windows and macOS. On a Mac the server drives PowerPoint through Apple Events, and 12 tools are unavailable: SmartArt, freeform node editing type, removing one animation, tags, shape selection, table style and ppt_execute_mso.
How does ppt-mcp differ from python-pptx?
python-pptx edits a pptx file without launching the application. ppt-mcp drives a running PowerPoint and edits appear on screen in real time. The trade-off is that PowerPoint must be installed.
How do I add icons to a deck with ppt-mcp?
ppt_search_icons searches the Google Material Symbols set by keyword and ppt_add_svg_icon inserts the icon as SVG. You can pick a style (outlined, rounded, sharp), a filled variant and a theme color such as accent1. On a Mac the icon is rasterised with the system sips utility before insertion.
Can I work with several presentations at once?
Yes. Pin the main file with ppt_activate_presentation or pass a presentation parameter on each call. The parameter accepts a path, a file name or a name without extension, and if the file is not open it returns an error instead of falling back to another file.

README in short
The project description calls it a server for controlling a live PowerPoint and gives three example prompts of rising detail, each with finished slides: a short one, one with style direction and a detailed one with structure. A separate table suggests wording that improves results: color scheme, accent, tone, background and emphasis. A macOS section lists what differs on Mac. Each example is stored in the repository with its prompt, slide images and the resulting pptx.
