What it does
The server offers eight tools: full-text search across Garant, a document's text, the verbatim text of a specific article, a document's table of contents, all editions of an act with their validity periods, the edition in force on a given date, court practice from the higher courts with filters, and a tree of the database's information types. It works through a personal internet.garant.ru subscription: a background daemon keeps the browser profile on the local machine, renews the session itself, and listens only on 127.0.0.1; the repository stores or forwards no credentials. Every article citation comes with a provenance block: the edition, its effective date, the amending act, and a text fingerprint, so the citation can be checked rather than trusted blindly.
Who it is for. For lawyers preparing claims, complaints and legal opinions with Claude or Codex who want statutes cited from the current edition, not from the model's memory.
Good fit when
- You need to cite a statute in the edition that was in force on a given date
- You need higher-court practice on a specific issue with filters
- You want to verify every citation by its reference details, not just trust the model
Not a fit when
- You do not have an active personal Garant subscription: the server will not work without one
- You need rulings from the courts of cassation of general jurisdiction: they live in a different Garant database not reachable through this subscription
- You need the vendor's official API: the client is built from recorded site traffic, the service has no public API

Requires an active personal Garant subscription (internet.garant.ru login and password), and will not work without one. Article text is normalized HTML from the Garant page, so editorial inserts can end up inside a quote. Court practice returns only the first page of a filtered list. The client is built from recorded site traffic rather than a public API, so a change on Garant's side may require the endpoint map to be updated.
How to disable. Run garant uninstall (with --purge to also erase the subscription profile), or remove the garant server from Claude Desktop, Claude Code or Codex config manually.

No, the repository holds no database and no credentials; the session lives in the browser profile on your machine and renews automatically.
