What it does
Storybook MCP is an MCP server giving an agent Storybook documentation and components. Launched as an MCP server: command `npx`, arguments `-y storybook-mcp@latest`. On the first run the server starts at once and installs Chromium in the background, the browser can be preinstalled with `npx -y storybook-mcp@latest install-browser`. Version 0.5.1 from 30.03.2026, MIT license.
Who it is for. For developers who need an agent to read Storybook documentation and components and use them when building interfaces.
Good fit when
- An agent should use ready components from Storybook
- You need component documentation in the agent's context
- You need an MCP server for a design system
Not a fit when
- You cannot download Chromium on first run
- There is no Storybook in the project
Example request
Find the table component with sorting in Storybook and show its variants and propertiesMCP
- Transport
- stdio
- Authentication
- not required
Limitations
On the first run Chromium downloads in the background, a separate download. The server reads your Storybook, so access is minimal.
