Extended access
Why this level
- The agent reads accounts, holdings, net worth and spending, so personal financial data enters the model context
- The `activities:write` and `spending:write` scopes let the agent save and delete operations, so it is better to start with the `read-only` preset
Install
- Works in
Manual install
claude mcp add --scope user --transport http wealthfolio <адрес> --header "Authorization: Bearer <токен>"Take the server address and token from the AI Agent Access settings of the app.
Access and checks
How we reviewExtended accessThe tool runs code or makes network calls and only reads external data.
- The agent reads accounts, holdings, net worth and spending, so personal financial data enters the model context
- The `activities:write` and `spending:write` scopes let the agent save and delete operations, so it is better to start with the `read-only` preset

What it does
Wealthfolio is a private tracker for investments, net worth and spending with a built-in MCP server. Settings call it AI Agent Access, and it runs in the Tauri desktop app and in the Docker web server at `/mcp`. The mobile app does not support MCP. The agent reads accounts, balances, holdings, asset allocation, valuation history, income, net worth, performance, goals and spending. It writes through drafts: `record_activity` prepares an operation and `commit_activity_draft` saves it, which takes a separate access scope. Access is granted by a Personal Access Token with chosen scopes, with ready presets from `read-only` up to writing activities. Every call is checked against the token scope, and agent requests land in the audit log by default.
Who it is for. Private investors who keep a portfolio in Wealthfolio and want to go through it and their spending with Claude Code, Cursor or Codex.
Good fit when
- The agent sums up returns by account and compares them with a savings goal
- A month of spending has to be sorted into categories, and the agent proposes them through `propose_transaction_categories`
- A broker CSV goes into the app: the agent prepares the import through `prepare_activity_import` and you confirm it
- A question about currencies and asset classes gets an answer from `get_asset_allocation` data
Not a fit when
- Access is needed from a phone: the mobile app does not run a local MCP server
- The agent should get SQL access to the database: arbitrary queries and direct SQLite reads are not part of the MCP
- Broker orders are required: the server keeps a record of operations and sends no orders to an exchange

Environment variables
WF_MCP_ENABLEDrequired- Turns on the `/mcp` endpoint on the web server, `false` by default
WF_MCP_AUDIT_ENABLED- Records calls in the audit log, `true` by default
WF_MCP_ALLOWED_HOSTS- Comma-separated list of accepted Host header values
WEALTHFOLIO_TOKENrequired, secret- The client's Personal Access Token, created in AI Agent Access
Limitations
- The server works only inside a running app or web server; there is no separate binary or stdio mode.
- The client must speak Streamable HTTP; stdio-only clients cannot reach the server.
- On the web server the `/mcp` endpoint stays off until `WF_MCP_ENABLED=true` is set.
- A token is shown once and cannot be rotated: delete the old one and create a new one. Writing depends on drafts: `activities:write` does nothing without `activities:draft`.
How to disable. Tokens are deleted in the AI Agent Access settings, and clients lose access at once. On the web server `WF_MCP_ENABLED=false` closes the endpoint, and `claude mcp remove wealthfolio` removes the server from Claude Code.
FAQ
How do I connect Wealthfolio to Claude Code?
Create a token in the AI Agent Access settings and run `claude mcp add --scope user --transport http wealthfolio <address> --header "Authorization: Bearer <token>"`. The same settings section shows the server address and ready snippets for other clients.
Can the agent change portfolio data?
Only with granted rights. `activities:draft` lets it prepare drafts, and `activities:write` lets it save and delete operations. The `read-only` preset includes no writes.
What does the agent see with the `read-only` preset?
Accounts and balances, holdings, asset allocation, valuation history, income, net worth, performance, goals and spending. The tools do not expose secrets, backups or arbitrary files.
What lands in the audit log?
Agent tool calls. The entry keeps a token fingerprint instead of the token itself. `WF_MCP_AUDIT_ENABLED=false` switches the logging off.
How do I enable MCP on the Docker version?
Set `WF_MCP_ENABLED=true` and run the `wealthfolio/wealthfolio:latest` image. A token is mandatory, and `WF_MCP_ALLOWED_HOSTS` additionally restricts Host header values.

README in short
The README introduces Wealthfolio as a local investment tracker with planning, rebalancing, spending and an AI assistant, to which external agents connect over MCP. For the web server it describes the `WF_MCP_ENABLED`, `WF_MCP_AUDIT_ENABLED` and `WF_MCP_ALLOWED_HOSTS` variables. The detailed scope model lives in the project's agent access document.
